Hi geeks

I have been doing Shellac for about 4 years and always follow the correct prep. Recently, like the last 3 applications one client's is peeling completely off in one piece. Only this client.

Could it be caused by stress? Is it oily nails that causes it to peel?

It's really frustrating as she has them done every 2 weeks and they have always lasted before. The nails pictured are hers, they are 9 days old. I know my bulbs are not out, they could need turning but it seems strange it's only happening to one person.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks x

Which top coat are you using??? I only ask because I've been testing the new Duraforce topcoat on a couple of my clients and they are both coming back with the Shellac peeling off virtually in one piece. It doesn't chip it literally lifts like a flap and peels off. I'm using the CND LED Lamp and S2 purchased products so I know there are no issues there and I've been Shellacing and Gel Polishing for about 6 years and never had this before.

My initial thoughts were finger placement, but as you're getting the same thing I wondered if it's the Duraforce.

I'm getting fantastic results from Duraforce but I'm using the CND original UV lamp, if any help

Thanks for your reply. I'm using the original top coat, the one I've always used. It's weird, it is lifting in one whole piece but has only happened probably the last 3 applications. This is why I asked about stress and oily nails?

I've been using duraforce on several clients including myself since it was launched without any peeling problems. I use the CND led light.
I find it works well on the clients with thin bendy nails. Some of them also have ibx or use rescue rx at home.

Could hormonal changes be affecting your client and their nails?
Or holiday using deet insect repellent?

Not for mine, well no different to usual, these are long term clients. It's not that its misbehaving, its more that its behaving in a way I've never seen before. Its almost like it's not cured, its eve rso slightly rubbery, you can't tear the flap in half or rip it, it's really strong just not adhered and there is no damage to the nail plate, its like it was never attached, but this is two weeks in and happens a few days before they come so it seems to be fine for about 10 days. I'm using Scrubfresh as always, nothing else has changed apart from the Duraforce.

Hmm... tricky one!

When you say peeling off in one do you mean all the layers become detached from the nail - so base, colour and top all in one ?

'Rubbery ' makes me think maybe too thick a layer and not fully cured potentially?

On myself I have noticed that if I've had my hands in very hot water it does become more flexy at the edges.

It must be homecare I think as some of my clients get a week longer than normal with it.

yes, client says it lifts off in one piece, and it is all the layers too. Which makes me think it hasn't adhered to the nail properly, but then why only 2 of them? I don't get it. I will try turning my bulbs and even thinner layers and see what happens. Thanks

Yep, all in one piece all stuck together, no damage to nail plate, its really tough you cant tear it apart so it's bonding to itself (base, colour x 2 and top coat), just not particularly well to the nail.

I don't believe it's too thick, like I say I'm not new to this, and I've been doing 'thin to win' following other discussions about top coat issues.

Well, we're all a bit stumped for reasons then!
☹️

Not completely proper I know but use a layer of CND brisa bond (gel bonding agent) under the base coat?

Might try that, thanks for the suggestion :D
