OK so I'm pretty new to shellac but I've been using for a couple of months now with no problems. I have had 3 clients recently with shellac peeling (no chipping) just literally peeling off the nail in one go! I'm prepping the nail and just can't understand why this is happening. Two clients had the same colour (blue denim) had anyone else had trouble with this colour? And another had wildfire. Also, am I right in thinking I don't need to use scrub fresh if applying to silk or acrylic overlays? Thank you :)

Just to clarify, the clients who peeled didn't have overlays just shellac on natural nail x

I don't use shellac I use IBD just gel, but they have something called power bond. You apply it before the base coat and let it air dry. It's amazing for keeping the gel in place. I've had no chipping or peeling at all. I've had to stop using it on myself as I was actually having trouble removing the gel it was so welded on. Might be worth a try?

Are you using the CND lamp?

Can you tell us all your steps and products being used..

Hi ladies thank you for your replies, yes I do use the cnd lamp (the newer LED one) my process is manicure, using cuticle away if needed (did use this on clients who's nails peeled), file and buff, scrub fresh, apply base coat, 2 x colour, top coat (all cnd Shellac)

Xx

You don't need to buff the natural nail when using Shellac if this is what you're doing? It causes nail damage over time but I think I heard it also causes the Shellac to not adhere properly to the nail

Oh I thought you could buff as long as it was in the direction of the natural growth? Thank you for that though, I'll have a look in to it. Blossom.... I have since read (after you asked that) that the client needs to wash hands after, I've only used the scrub fresh and it appears that this may be the problem! I think maybe there has been some cuticle away left on the nail perhaps that has caused the lifting?? Thank you for all replies, hopefully this won't happen again! Xx

No, CND teaches to never buff the natural nail. But if you haven't been deactivating cuticle away with water then it sounds like this is the problem! :)
