Hi,

I've been using Shellac for a good few years now. I always used it as it was the best I was told and not that readily available where I live, so I thought this would be an advantage. I had a break from doing nails as much, apart from the odd predicate in summer. Just recently I've gone back to doing more nails due to moving to my home salon. The thing I've started to notice, is that clients who come to me and have had their nails done with Gellish elsewhere, have it in for ages with hardly any chipping! Shellac lasts at best about a week for my clients! I tell people that it's because it's much less damaging for their nails and that's why it doesn't last as long, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it. It's making me nervous about doing people's nails now. What do you think?

It lasts longer for me, are you using all the correct prep products etc?.

Do they have the right nail type for shellac?.

Shellac should definitely be lasting longer than just 1 week. My clients get anything between 2 - 5 weeks wear, not that I would ever recommend or encourage quite that long lol

If you're having problems I would advise you go back to basics and look at all your steps and ensuring you're following the full CND procedure.

I wasn't using the cuticle away, but another brand of cuticle remover. And I wasn't using the scrub fresh but the gelish dehydrator. I didn't think this would have a massive effect? I have since bought these again and hope that will sort it. I am using the cnd brisa base coat and top coat. This wouldn't effect it would it?

Yes it would ....you need to be using the system as a whole which means the Shellac base and top coat. They not only will effect how long your clients get but it keeps the removal quick. Also when using cuticle away remember you do need to deactivate it afterwards with water.

A couple of things. Before you consider switching to another product line, you should make sure that you are using your existing product in the most optimal manner. Although Gelish is considered more durable than CND Shellac, getting only a week out of Shellac is a problem. It should easily last two weeks. Go through your CND Shellac process and make sure that you are using the proper solutions and tools (especially the light) and using them properly.

The second point is that NO gel polish should damage a client's nails. Damage generally results from poor application and worse removals. Since Shellac generally has easy removals, the potential for damage is less, but no gel product should cause damage.
