I am having real trouble getting shellac to stay put. It always chips or peels after about day 2 or 3. I'm following all the recommended steps and have watched the fingernail fixer tutorials.

I use a CND lamp, scrubfresh, CND products. I'm curing for the recommended amount of time. I put it on very thinly, sometimes even too thinly as it looks patchy after 2 coats. If I do it thicker the same thing happens.

I'm sealing the nail edge. After a day or two the colour lifts off the sealed edge and then off the fingertip. If I picked at it I could probably pull all or most of the shellac off my entire nail.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Ps I'm mainly using fedora which I know is tricky but I have the same thing with other colours. I'm shaking the bottles of colour, top and base coats lots.

Are you a nail professional and have you had training?

Just a thought - check that your bulbs are in correctly and all of them are lighting up when the lamp is switched on. How old is your lamp? If you've had it a while check how many hours you've got.

Only other thing is making sure you do your prep correctly. After cuticle removal and shape, thoroughly scrub the nail with scrubfresh and make sure you get the free edge too. Don't skimp on your prep.

Apart from that I'm not sure what else you can do apart from doing the shellac course if you haven't already, or having a 1 to 1.

Good luck, it really is a great product! x

Thanks to you both for your replies.

No, I'm not a professional and I've had no training, just a lot of watching on You Tube. I'll make sure I scrubfresh the edge of my nail, thanks for that. My lamp's bulbs all look like they're in ok and light up fine, but maybe I'll rotate them. It's a CND lamp but bought off eBay from a salon that was closing down. Do you think it could be a fake lamp? It looks fine. Should I cure for longer than 2 mins?

I am really frustrated because I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks.

How did you get hold of Shellac and the other CND products if you're not a pro?

If you bought from ebay, there's a high probability that some/all of your products are fake.

Besides not curing correctly, you seriously risk becoming ill/allergic to the chemicals used as they might not be genuine.

If you really enjoy doing nails, why not find a good course locally and get some quality training?

Thank you Haircutz. I didn't realise products could be fake - well I knew about Bluesky shellac was to be avoided but I assumed cnd products would be ok. Mmmm, not sure what to do now. I feel like a bit of a fool.

The good news is I did a fresh application and it's applied much better and looks like it will stay put.

How much is a nail course?
