How often is it okay for me to soak off and apply new nails on myself??

I think I change my mind too often :o and I love showing off and trying new things. I have gold glitter on one hand (see my gallery for pic) and french on the other right now but I just got some new coloured powders and I want to give them a go, lol

I just don't want to do any damage to my own nails... I use CND product remover and the cotton ball and foil method.

Have I asked a really stuipid question???? cos no one has answered it....

The less you change them then the better! But as techs we tend to abuse out own nails and do stuff that we would NEVER do on a client!! If it helps you to advertise your work then change them as often as you like - just make sure you remove them properly and don't pick them off like I do! :o

No question is a stupid question mate :lick:

How often do you soak off and replace?

Remover is not kind to your skin, you know that for yourself as it makes it all dry, and after a while I suspect you'd start getting some kind of over exposure problems (soreness, redness, etc.)

It's a difficult question to answer as everyone's skin is different and what irritates one person will have no effect on someone else.

I found I replaced my nails all the time at first, but I don't do it so often now - I suppose the novelty has worn off a bit

Not a lot of help really!

Thanks Sassy

I thought that would be the answer but I just wanted to check!

I don't like to soak off too often, as Sassy and Trinity have said, its not good...

I will rebalance to almost nothing on my own nails and file the length off then sculpt them back on. I don't like my natural nail to grow out and love the underside of sculpting (I'm a bit wierd like that!). The safest way I have found of doing this, I hate the feel of acetone!! ew...hth

Hello,

I am no expert, but I know that soaking off sets time and time again can be very drying on your nails.. But I don't know if it can actually do any DAMAGE.

I am the same as you, I get bored and want to try new things, I just put a new set on and in my boredom I applied a dried flower to one thumb and crushed shells to the other.. Looks odd, but I wanted to try them! LOL!

Can you not try new powders on the tips for instance by filing it out and applying and backfilling with a new powder?

Not been much help have I?! LOL!

I'm only doing it about once every 3-4 weeks. I might have a go filing off the glitter back to the tip as I guess I really don't want the hassle of doing another full set on myself. I'd love to do sculpts but I just know I'd mess up my right hand!

Thanks for all the advice

Acetone does damage the nail as it penetrates all layers, dehydrating them... One client tried to soak her own off and gave herself extreme onycholysis.

I am no expert either....

I think it is cool to do each finger different. Each of my fingers has a different metro tip....Take a picture and then compile a catalogue of all that you do. I have recently done it. I put them in an album with pictures of clients nails from over the past year for people to view.

I will be doing encapsulated rhinestones and 3d flowers next...lol

You'll be fine if it's only every month or so - blimey, there are techs round here who insist that their clients soak off every other appointment as they can't do a proper rebalance

I thought you were soaking off every day or something

Just keep practising with your left...lol....its taken me a good year to get them looking ok...you become a bit ambidextrous after a while and get confused with which hand to hold the brush in!!
