When I was cutting my nails the other day I noticed that underneath some of my nails had skin clear skin protruding past my fingertips, I don't remember ever seeing this before. It's pretty much stopping me from cutting the nail all the way to me fingertips... I'm afraid to cut it because when I touch it the skin feels very sensitive like its part of my fingertips, and I'm guessing it would be very painful to cut. I can see it very clearly on my middle, index, and ring fingers, not so much on the thumbs. What can I do to fix it? The picture shows what I'm pretty sure it used to look like on the left, on the right is what I have now.

Looks like pterygium inversum unguis, or extended pterygium. It's basically extra hyponycium. It's live tissue and may contain nerves and blood supply. That's why it's painful to push on. It may be hereditary or from an allergic reaction. Consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment.

That sounds like what I probably have, do you know how I can fix it?

My sister has this, it's very high up. She used to go to a little Chinese nail bar (don't get me started) and they cut hers off when cutting the tips down, she said there was a hell of a lot of blood for where it was! It grew back though! Just be very careful with it! :)

See your doctor.

I really do not have time for that... Is there any way for me to get rid of this? Will it go away by itself? Does it just stay like this forever?

I am not a doctor and probably no one else on here is either, so not qualified to offer treatment advice. Make time, if it's important to you.
