DHA- dihydroxyacetone this is what tans your skin when it reacts with the amino acids . it originated from sugarbeet roots and is approved by the FDA foods drugs administration for safe use on skin. it has been used safely in cosmetics for 30 years. As for best one to use!! im a fan of Urban Tan comes in 4 shades nice colour and you can also personalise your tan with one of the aroma zone fragrances. Other good ones sienna x A tan Fake bake fantasy tan call around and get some samples from the companys direct they should send you info on start up costs training and systems.....

Hi Sarah
There has been so many threads recently about spray tanning. I am sure if you put 'Spray Tanning' in to this sites excellent search facility you will find oodles of information that will be of help to you.. if after doing a search you still need any further info, by all means give me a pm and I will try and help.

Aye, most spray tanning products will contain DHA (Dihydroxyacetone, CH2OH(CO)CH2OH) which undergoes the Maillard reaction with proteins in the stratum corneum (top later of skin) - aagh guess who has been reading Wikipedia too much lol... it's a very safe product as it's essentially a sort of sugar; some other products may contain erythulose which is again a sugar molecule but slightly larger than DHA - either in conjunction with or instead of DHA.

All self tanning products will likely contain DHA or erythulose - whether "natural" or otherwise; another possible ingredient is Lawsone (2-hydroxy-1,4-napthoquinone), which is the active ingredient in henna that gives the red/brown stain on the skin, although I haven't seen this in the formulas of any tanning products yet...

As Jen has said there are tons of threads already on spray tanning, just have a search and I am sure you will find lots of info.

Do your research carefully as a solution that one person likes can be hated by another, so get what is right for you and your clients.
