Hello

I'm going to cut my friend's hair in the morning, she usually as a uniform layer that is done at a 90 degree angle at equal lengths all around the head.

Now her hair quite long just passed her shoulder's she as now asked for a square layered cut. i have been learned how to do a long layered cut but how much different is the square layered cut?

I think i was shown by my tutor to make a profile parting from the front hairline to the top of the crown, then cut at a horizontal angle to make the square layers.

just wanted to know if anyone can guide me abit on how you do this hair cut,

Thanks

Square layers you pull straight up from the head and cut straight or if you want it more choppy cut into it maybe but making sure the length always drops first before you cut as with all layers, thats what I was taught, hth x

Sorry yeah as you said you pull at an angle with square you pull straight up***

Sorry again!! I'm confusing you, you pull at an angle with the one you were saying she already has, with square you pull up! LOL! Would so laugh if i still told you wrong, well obv I wouldn't coz it would ruin your cut but hey you get the picture lool x

Hi Hun just pull all layers up to the top and cut straight across, let the length drop down before you cut, and as said above you can point cut it it makes it easier to blend :) hope I've explained it well enough :)

Hi

thanks for both replies,

I've just been practicing doing the cut on my dolls head, it looks very similar to the long layered cut, as you explained i've been taking the top and sides straight up and cutting horizontally.

Do i need to frame the sides of the face, i think from the chin so it looks like layers pointing out from the sides of the face.

Are you talking about a-framing it?? I suppose it depends on what your client wants? X

Yep I'll second that Hun, just ask. if you give a thorough consultation you'll be able to decide on your clients answers how to personalise the cut :)
