I'm not sure but aren't some of these BHA's? I am sure salcylic acid is, but now you have me doubting myself!

You're absolutely right Sass, salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid/BHA (the only one, in fact!). It works in a slightly different way to AHAs - being lipid soluble, it can wriggle it's merry way past sebaceous plugs into the pores themselves, making it an excellent choice for blemish-prone skin with blocked pores. It is also chemically related to aspirin and retains many of the anti-inflammatory properties of aspirin as a result, which again make it good for acne and skins that find AHA peels or products too irritating.

I know that these can be fairly common allergens when consumed, but what about when applied to the skin? Do you check for allergies for these things during the consultation?
I always check for allergies with every consultation, reguardless of what the treatment is.
