The most important parts are registering yourself as self employed with hmrc and getting yourself insured! :)

I'd also recommend creating yourself a spreadsheet, for your income and expenses, or getting yourself an accountant who will help you with all of that.

Thank you, are there any insurances that you would recommend xx

Salon gold, babtec, abt are all well known.

If you want to work from home You'll need to inform your council, and mortgage provider too to get permission. If you're in a newbuild you might have a restrictive covenant on your house prohibiting any commercial activity.

That would be a problem if you have neighbours who are the complaining type. My sister in laws spray tanner got fined by her council for having a log cabin salon & was told to shut down.

I'm with ABT because I love the free scratch magazine :p

I don't know which council you come under but the only thing mine (basildon) requested was that I get an extractor. Other than that, they were happy for me to work from home.

Definitely get yourself registered as self employed asap though. You'll need to start NI contributions as well :) I've got preggo brain at the moment, and think it's class 2? But check out for sure on the hmrc website!

Thank you everyone that's a massive help, linzi I'm with Thurrock council but in the process of buying our house xx
