Hi, Just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on starting up self employed?
Im seeing a business advisor from a company called 'inbiz' tomorrow who help with grants and stuff and not sure how to project what i want to do.
They provide help with tax, national insurance, business plans, grants etc but cant quite imagine what the future holds so cant give him a detailed plan!

Im already a mobile nail tech part time after work when i have clients booked in but also need help with advertising! Have done leaflet drops, business cards but dont seem to be getting anywhere and its becoming quite frustrating!
Could anyone tell me a bit about how they started up their company and what happened??
Any help appreciated!!

Hiya

Firstly good luck and well done I think your going the right ways about by getting proffesional help they will advise you on alot adverytising included and you will be able to get grant money towards this.

I started renting a space in a tanning salon in the next town from me and I advertised in the local paper and offered a 10% discount for the first month- this seemed to work.

I am also going to work mobile in my local area and Im in the same thoughts as you dont quite know how to go about that one- so far I have done public notice boards laundrette etc. have you dropped your leaflets perhaps at the local supermarket, hairdressers and schools all places where the ladies go regurlaly (when I say schools I mean the mums not the kids).

Also if you can get the funds how about your local radio station they do business advertising usually and how many people are listening to that whilst doing their housework, driving or at work.

good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Nikki,
Yeah have done hairdressers... have left posters, flyers and my business cards.
There were obviously the odd one or two who didnt want to let me advertise but never mind!
Also have some in tanning studios and my cousin is a builder and when he was doing his leaflet drop he did mine! Saved my legs!! Also have a friend who delivers papers in our area so put some in there. Still no joy though.
Will go see this business advisor tomorrow and let you all know. Fingers crossed!!

Claire
