This maybe a silly question but are you shaking your solution well before dispensing it into your cup.
I use LA tan and have never come across this. Yes it is darker with the guide colour on, but I explain this to the client then they know what to expect.....I have had other brands of tan on myself and they have also been darker before washing the guide off.
I sprayed my daughter over the weekend with 8% LA for a dance competition, (I've popped a picture in my album) my parents came up yesterday and my Mum commented on how my daughter has a lovely colour/tan (we did have a bit of good weather a couple of weeks ago!!). Surely that's what the majority of clients are wanting ......a natural looking tan......and for those who want more then buy a higher % or add booster drops.

I think there has been some good advice given, give LA/your trainer a call and they will talk through your routine etc. and give you some pointers.

Nat,nobody is rowing cherub, this is a forum and you will always get a difference of opinion, especially with so many professionals using different products and techniques.

It's when people write silly things such as a tan just washing off the next day, that's the sort of thing I would've expected from a client trying it on for a freebie not a professional spray tanning therapist and I dont think that saying this is constructive advice at all because it's the equivilent to a client saying my nails just fell off!!!!

It makes no odds to me what you use,I just think it's a bit of a shame to buy the products then think about trying another brand because of a few early day hiccups.Anyway,it's up to you what you use and what you believe.I believe in my product,I have a new business and there is NO WAY on earth I would be using a tan on my clients that didn't tick all the right boxes or that simply washed off the next day.If I was I wouldn't have a business for very long would I?

Incidently,Lou has a point and I also was wondering if maybe when you are rinsing your gun through with water after your last client are you then making sure you spray the remains out onto some couch roll before embarking on your next tan?because if not this will be diluting your solution and this could cause problems.

I always spray the solution before doing the tan until the tanning lotion comes through at the correct colour as the tubes contain a lot of water from flushing through when cleaning the gun.HTH

I'm just getting confused and I am really down at the moment! Please dont think I am moaning and I dont know what I would do without you lot on here at the mo! Just trying to find a solution to my problems as I really dont want to loose sleep over spray tanning which is what is happening at the mo! As I said to you in the message I sent you I have some things in place for the weekend to try and get to the bottom of the problem as everything you say I should be doing I am doing. I also spray direct onto couch roll before I spray any client. I think that's essential esp when you are going from client to client!

Thanks gals n guys :)

I've just had people saying it wasnt dark enough so use more 12 now. :(

If your clients aren't happy then maybe you should try some samples from other companies.
You need to find a solution that works for you.
To be honest, i had the same problem.
I really don't get the idea of double-dipping!
You either get clients that think the guide colour is way too dark and have to walk round with a really dark tan until they shower or, you get clients that actually get used to the guide colour and are then a little disappointed when they shower.
I have sampled LA Tan and i had a couple of people say that their tan had washed off. It hadn't, it was that it was just a lot lighter once they had showered. You need to explain this to clients beforehand. The LA Gold is not double dipped.
I do actually stock the LA Disco for clients that want to go really dark but i also explain that this tan does not last as long or fade as well as my regular solution.
I think as long as clients know these things beforehand then they wont be disappointed :D

Thanks all, I have a few things planned to combat my probs.

Last night I adjusted the gun slightly but there was too much overspray and the model was far too brown for a 10 so the gun is not the problem (luckily she has a great tan today after showering and is very pleased!)

Next week I have a few guinea pig sessions lined up. One sesssion with my friend who is also a mobile tanner where I am going to use my LA tan and she can check my spraying technique and also she will spray me with the lotion so I can see the exact full process my self on my own skin.

The other session is with some of the samples I have been sent to see how I get on with them. I know that some of you dont agree with this but this way I am covering all areas both with my current tan range and others.

Lastly my friend is taking a spray tanning course with the lady who trained me next weekend and I am going as a model. I contacted her and she also said that she would give me some further training whilst I was there and that I could also take my own gun along so she could see where I was going wrong!

I have also spoken to Daniel at LA tan who was very helpful.

Hopefully this will all combat the problems once and for all!!!!!

I really want to say thanks to you all for all the posts and messages, feels great to get all the fab advice from all you guys! I hope to keep you posted on progress!!! :D

Hi Nat-Nat. Think about the products that your client is using before she comes to you as well. Your tanning product may not work with the ingredients of the shower gel your client is using. It's best to get them to shower the night before they come to you and not just before the appointment - sometimes this will affect the end result. x;)
