Im not really sure if this is the right place to put this thread, but personally thought this was strange.. please tell me what you think..
Ok, so i had a call earlier from a number i did not recognise, i answered it and said hello, but the person then just hung up.
Straight after they hung up, i received a text from them saying
"Can u style my hair plz hun"
I replied saying
"Sorry, who is this?"
They then said
"It's catherine"
I replied saying
"Do i know you?"
And she wrote back
"No so can u style my hair"
I didn't reply straight away as i thought it all sounded a bit odd and for someone who doesn't know me? But then she sent another text about 5 mins after saying..
"Can i tell u something in confidence plz"
I wrote back saying
"This is obviously a wind up so please refrain from texting again"
And she said
"No its not hun"
And so i said
"Well you wouldn't want to tell me something in confidence when you have no idea who i am? So stop texting now please"
And i didn't get a reply?!

What would you think about that? .. Do you think i am wrong for assuming that it is a wind up? Or would you think this all sounded a bit weird too?

x

Personally I wouldnt hung on to hear what she wanted to tell you lol.
Maybe she bottled speaking to you-some people dont like speaking on the phone to people they dont know and some people say 'hun' to sound friendly.
It does sound weird what with the 'can I tell you something in confidence', but I would have waited to see what she said-you could have always declined the job then.

My initial reaction is that it's a transgender client who is very shy - just a thought, and it's up to you how you handle a client.

true, as i am kind of intrigued now as to what she wanted to 'tell me in confidence' lol!
I just thought it was weird that they hung up and that their first text called me hun? but they doesn't know me? And usually if a new client texts, they would say "i am looking to have such and such done, can you tell me what you would charge for that and also ask if i cover the area in which they lives" but her texts were all very brief and a bit odd?
Being mobile, i automatically get a bit wary with going to new clients houses (even now!) especially when they text as it doesn't even give me the chance to pre-judge the client or give me an incling of what to expect judging by their voice! (might sound a little bad, but i often try to figure somebody out by their voice on the phone first!)
So being wary at the best of times, this just made me feel extra wary!!

hmm, this hadn't even crossed my mind.. good thought though. I just get wary with it being just me and them in an unfamiliar house when it is a new client i have not been to before.. especially when the enquiry was put to me the way that it was.

That exactly what i though! : )

I would have called them back as maybe the line was dodgey and cut out? It does seem quite odd though..x

This is also what I'd say too, I have alot of pre and post operation trans women. Some ladies are shy some aren't, depends how far into their journey they are. But give them advice and most of mine I already knew but not all and once I'd met them they actually told me all about what they were going through or had done.

i tried to call back before i had text back the first time but they kept rejecting my call so that it went to answerphone?
Is it common to get transgender clients then? How do you deal with them? Does it not make you feel a little uncomfortable? Without sounding prejudice, i don't know if i would like it? Just me and them in their house i mean?

I think transgender clients prefer to use mobile therapists, its alot more discreet, this maybe why she asked to tell you something in confidence.

I have a couple of transgender clients now,I wouldnt be any more bothered being alone with a transgender person than i would any other, were all the same, apart from some are born with the wrong bits and bobs for them.

If you feel you might not like it, I wouldnt book an appointment for them, its not fair, youre at risk of hurting someones feelings.

How do you deal with them?? honestly, are you for real? theyre human beings!

Theres lots of documentaries been made over the years about transgender males and females, you may want to look one up.I understand that you may fear the unknown, but honestly I cant believe in this day and age youve never come accross this before?

Well I probably get alot more than normal because I know most of them from working in clubs, as I do Drag aswell so it's like normal for me but if you understand the difference between drag queens who are gay men with way too much fashion sense for one gender! and transsexuals who are straight men that get sexual kicks from dressing as a women. And transgender people who are born into the wrong body which is why they have the operations to change their gender. Nothing to be scared about, just ask they will more than likely tell you .

It is not a case of 'getting real'. Yes i have come across a transgender before. I wasn't born yesterday. But i haven't had a transgender client before which is what i am saying. It is very much fearing the unknown, as you say. I also offer my services as 'Ladies hairdressing' and the reason being and feeling this way is that i had something happen to me in my past which has left me feeling fear to be alone with a man (besides my partner, my dad or my brother). So don't know how i would feel if put in this situation.

I do not have anything against people in general :) .. and encourage people to be who they want to be and feel comfortable being :)

Well without wanting to pry into your past and personal life hun your safe with transgender people.

Have to say I actually haven't come across transgender clients yet not sure how I'd react on a mobile basis as I don't do gents from home for a safety issue unless I know them, wouldn't make the slightest difference in a salon though xx

Their not gents though hun, even if they still have their male genitals, they are sexually excited by men not women x

Oh yeh no nothing to do with sexual side of things just the strength to overpower me whether it be for money or whatever but mind you I am small so suppose a woman could do the same, thinking of just doing everyone and anyone and letting hubby know where I'm going and when as I generally don't like to discriminate at all, it's just all new to me being mobile and still not really what I want to do! Just when I saw the post it got me thinking :-/ xc

You are like me .. i don't do male clients either. And being that i am mobile just makes me worry a little more i suppose.
I understand 'bluerinse' says they are not really men though, but guess its like not knowing the unknown as said previously.
I also panic that some people may just say these things to get me in to their home, then once i'm there, there is nothing i can do if i sense bad vibes and untruthful things have been told to me.
