Hi Geeks

I am assuming that although i am being told to use some other product for the removal of the tacky layer after application of shellac am i right in thinking that I can also just wipe with normal acetone???

Are they just trying to get me to buy MORE products that I don't need?
Lisa

You need to wipe the inhibition layer with the solution that they told you to use... usually it's Isopropyl alcohol.

You can't use acetone (remember acetone will soak off the Shellac)

Using anything else will not give you the glossy finish that Shellac gives.

HTH

NO. Acetone is used to remove Shellac. D.Sperse does not contain acetone.

Use D.Sperse or Isopropyl Alcohol, that you can get from a chemist, to remove the tacky layer.

So i can get Isopropyl Alcohol from the chemist and its just as good?

Hi have you tried surgical spirit! I use this all the time also great as cleans any germs off the nail area too!

From what I've read, yes. I've never actually used it myself. I went to my local Boots and they didn't sell it, it's a small one though. I like D.sperse. I like the smell and it's not expensive.

And d.sperse lasts ages because u only use such a small amount for each service. But just don't use acetone!!!

It has to be 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. Anything less won't give the same shine! HTH! :)

Thanks ladies....I would rather have d sperse if it is as good as you all say but now its a time issue as I have clients on monday and wouldn't be able to get order from s2 on time....Would surgical spirit work? or should I see if the chemist has the alcohol stuff?

The isopropyl alcohol is very similar to d.sperse. If you have cool blue you can use that too. They will do a perfectly good job until you can get some d.sperse :)

Hand gel works if u on a fix the type u use in hospitals xx

Hi i havent been doing nails for very long but I was told to use acetone free nail polish remover which is dead cheap aswell and works fine for me :) x

Be careful with this as you may still find that even though it says acetone free, it may still have a small amount.

Best to stick with the right tools for the job - 99% Isopropyl alcohol

First and foremost ..... I don't use Shellac.....

But my first port of call when using a new system is to use what is recommended by the supplier.

What I don't understand is why people are going beyond the system...

Why not use what the supplier recommends ? .... then.... (check your success rate) you can then freely ask for advice from the supplier of said product as you are using what they sell to you if you have problems, then decide on shortcuts and cheaper products until you fall flat on your face, then go back a step (when it was all alright).

Really you have no recall or right to advice if you are not using the recommended product.

The issue I had is that the top coat I ordered claimed to be 'no wipe', yet the product I received was not a no wipe gel top coat. On the box it said 'use the shine wipe to remove sticky layer' yet once again no wipes were provided. The UV lamp I ordered also promised an included pad-thingy to remove the sticky layer which it didn't. Bearing in mind that I ordered it all at once and have waited a good few weeks for it all to arrive, you can imagine how annoying it is to realise I'm still missing one thing. So in hopes of a quick fix to avoid having to order more equipment (like I'm sure many others here did) I am looking on here to seek advice.

Overall, you can see why I'm 'going beyond the system', as I don't want to be chasing specific things when there could be an alternative already sitting in my cupboards at home. Not everyone can afford the time or money to get the exact products, so i'd hardly say that we have 'no right to advice' (on a beauty forum created for the purpose of sharing advice..) if we're just doing our research on easier methods.
