what happens in situations where u have built up a good strong list of clients, but then are forced to move to a competing salon because work conditions in your own salon are just getting worse.

basically is it illegal in any way to ring clients and tell them you are moving to another salon so they can follow u?

what is the best way to try and spread the word? i know most of them wud be happy to pop 3miles down the road to have me do it, because the only reason they started coming to my current salon is because i actually went out in the beginning and handed out my cards etc. so i have worked damn hard to get them there are 40+ clients

If you are employed by the salon and then you move salons, you are at risk of being sued by your previous employers if you then inform your clients.

When you are employed by a salon the clients you have are not yours but the salons and all clients are protected by the data protection act. If you were self employed it would be a different situation.

Most salon contracts have a caveat preventing you from contacting any previous clients for 6 months + via any means, be it direct or or not i.e local advert.

A business owner has as much right to protect their business as you do to seek new employment.

am self employed and not under any contract.

i think an advert wud probs be best tbh, and a lot of my clients are linked someway i.e. are friends, colleagues, family etc.

so self employed and not under contract what would u personally do?

if you are self employed then the clients are yours. I would ring them.

yes ring them all, they will follow you! their your clients and its your business!:D

If you are self employed there is no problem!!! Good luck :D

I know how you are feeling, I am self employed and felt really bad about telling people where I was going! In the end I thought "no, these are my clients and I've worked hard to keep them" so told them!
Go for it, you've clearly worked hard :)

If your self employed and rent space etc then yes they are your clients and you can tell them. But if you work for a salon and are employed then ringing them you can get sued but they have to prove it. If a client of the salon asks you, your in your right to say weather employed or self employed.

on a related note! when do you think is the best time to leave the salon? shoudl i stick with it till xmas and then move after xmas? or move now before the xmas rush?

we all know how slow january and february can be so i'm thinking it doesn't look good to be moving to a new salon during this quiet period!?

sooner the better if your not happy!:green:
