Hey everyone, im acrylic trained with ASP and ive just done a refresher with Harmony as I never picked it up 1st time round but once again infills and rebalances weren't covered. I know an infill is to fill the growth section and I've been told a rebalance is for french tips to move the smile line back up the nail but ive been looking at other techs pricelists and some mention infills and others rebalances but not a lot mention both so im starting to think im missing something? Also how many times do you infill before you rebalance and how many infills before soaking off for a new set? Xx

I believe that when you infill zone 3 you also have to rebalance the nail so the stress point is built up & the tip is the correct length & thickness so in real terms they are one and the same.

Zone 2 (where you build your height) will have moved forward (into zone 1) and if it's not rebalanced and put into the correct place the nail's shape will be wrong & it will be more likely to break as zone 2 (the stress point) isn't strong enough, also the nail will have grown so if you file it back you will have zone 1 too thick (and you also have to put the smile line back in the correct place if your doing french nails).

Ps.. You don't need to soak off and apply a new set after a set amount of times, you can continually infill/rebalance them if the client is looking after them correctly. You may find a soak off and new set easier than an infill/rebalance if there is a LOT of lifting or damage to the set or if the client wants different colour tips all the time.

I usaully do 1 or 2 refills before a rebalance depending on where my tip placement is. I do refills every 2 weeks.

Most places dont mention both because they charge the same fir a refill and rebalance. Alot of people also like to change thier tips before then aswell.

I have one client that gets a new full set every two weeks because she wants something new

I don't do infills, I do rebalances, the structure of the nail should be corrected everytime so technically infills shouldn't happen but people people do tend to use the word 'infill' for rebalances anyway as it's what customers refer to

I was going to say same, I'm only newly qualified but if an infill needs doing then a rebalance will be needed at same time, due to apex moving up the nail, basically means apex filed down an rebuilt in right place as would have grown out toward tip meaning not as strong as should be. Unless it's a small repair due to lifting with no growing to be filled. Then obviously would only need to file away lift and fill.

I rebalance my French clients every three weeks as the white will have grown down by then, and I infill for my natural acrylic clients who have polish over. I charge the same as it takes me about an hour for either (infills less but waiting for polish to properly dry etc) and I have just got into the habit of charging the same. I suppose I think of it as an hourly rate! I find I have clients who need a new set every couple of months (due to work) and clients who ask for a new set once every 6-12 months, depends on the client and your judgement. But technically a re balance is re doing the white, and infills the growth area. Some places don't re balance, just infill and paint the white on with polish/gel/airbrush so don't mention it on their price list

Technically a rebalance means to bring the smile line back into place and that is it! Of course you would reshape the nail and rebuild the stress point with each refill but u would only rebalance a smile line when needed! A rebalance ONLY means to bring the smile line back to place, everything else is a given and not classed as a rebalance

A rebalance is the repositioning of the apex, create a new smile line(if needed and infill the re growth area

Filing down, refilling, rebuilding is a rebalance

I beg to differ

Thanks for the help everyone, I guess its more of a personal choice :) ive heard if a client wants a new colour everytime that some techs sculpt a thin base layer and then build their overlay on it and use an efile to just take the whole nail off to the base layer so they can put new on each time rather than infilling x
