I literally tried this last night!
I got the gellux chrome kit for Christmas and decided to do my first set of chrome nails on myself with one of the gellux colour changing gels.
The chrome nails do change colour, but because I used a white to blue colour changing gel, it's quite hard to tell, you can see the effect on my index finger in the below photo.

With thermo gels I prefer to use a white pearl pigment, rather than silver chrome, as it doesn't obscure the colour as much. It's more a polarised glass look than chrome, but the thermo effect shows up much better.
