Hello Salon Geek, I found your site while Googling for help with my skin problem. I hope I am posting this in the right place.
I have had very dry skin all my life until now, age 50, it's all changed and my dead skin cells seem to be glued on with thick, sticky grease. I am disabled, housebound and can only use my left hand so can't visit a salon or do any fiddly treatments. When I was younger if I washed my face with soap it would start to burn as soon as it was dry and need immediate moisturiser to stop the pain. Now soap isn't strong enough to cut through the grease even if I leave it to soak in, scrub with a flannel and repeat several times. This thick layer of dead skin feels horrible. If you could suggest anything that might help I would be very grateful

You definitely need to exfoliate. As mechanical exfoliators will be a bind for you to use I suggest an enzymatic one. These usually contain fruit acids. 2 I can recommend are Elemis papya enzyme peel, and Eve Taylor.

PS Please don't use soap!
If you are in the Chester area pm me.

An exfoliator definitely seems to be the way forward.

Perhaps find a local mobile therapist that a friend or someone trusted could recommend.

A facial would be very beneficial and hopefully they would be able to recommend a homecare routine for you.

If you are willing to post your location I'm sure we can find a therapist who specialises in skin who would be willing to visit you at home.
It's nigh on impossible to diagnose a skin condition without actually seeing it in the flesh, and as tempting as it is to suggest this or that product it would be unprofessional of us to do so remotely. We would need to take a history to determine possible causes and any contraindications.
Good luck!

Point taken, Lynne.

I'm "seeing" the skin in my mind, and thinking dead skin cells+sebum= what is described, but,of course, I'm not actually seeing it.

Perhaps a mobile therapist who could come to the house is the way to go.
