Hi everyone

Please can you advise me if you have a website, if it is a good way of getting new clients.
I have a domain name registered and have found a company to go with.

Having recently placed an ad in Yellow Pages and not getting 1 call!!!! I am very very wary of spending money of advertising that could potentially fail.

I only work part time and want to remain part time as I have a lovely little boy who comes first and I want to spend time with him. Saying that I also need to work as otherwise I would go crazy and we would be broker than broke.

I worry that a website could do one if two things - make me too busy or waste money I don't need to waste.

Also I dont understand traffic management - getting your site to the top of the search engine. I understand that in itself is v. expensive

Anyway thanks so much for your help

Look forward to your replies!!

How about you give it until after Christmas and see if business has picked up from the Yellow Pages ad?

You've got enough on your plate without adding something else to it at this stage. xxxx

Hi,

having a website need not be expensive - if you have a working knowledge of your PC and the right software, you can do it yourself.

All you need to spend money on is the domain name and possibly a hosting cost but that is only a few pounds a month.

Getting to the search engines does not have to cost anything other than time.

I would gladly help in any way I can, but also check out the web help pages on the www.thenaildirectory.com

It sometimes takes a while for advertising to work. My box ad came out in February in the YP. Nothing for the first couple of months, then the odd enquiry, but these last two months I probably get a new lead each week.

I haven't got a clue when it comes to computers. Fiona very kindly helped me with mine. My ad has also reached the first page on google and yahoo searches.

If you go to www.moonfruit.co.uk you can get a free website (they put some ads on it but seems a fairswap as it's free!). It is pretty basic but apparently really easy to use, no tech knowledge required. I know of other people who use it and they recommend it for testing whether you'd like a website or not.
I'm not a nail tech (I write for Professional Nails which is why I'm lurking on the site!), and if I wanted my nails done I would certainly search on the net for one, I don't even have a yellow pages in my flat anymore as it would never occur to me to look at one, or even the online version.
With a website I can see examples of your work, plus the more professional the site, the more professional I'm going to think you are. I realise that may not always be the case, but when I'm searching through lots of sites the easy to navigate, well-thought out and attractive sites are going to attract more of my attention. In my opinion, flash and sound are irritating and will put me off looking at a site because it can take ages to load - I'll often close down a site and go to another rather than waiting for it to load as I simply don't have the time (or the patience!).
I hope this helps a bit,

I have a friend who is fab and his websites start from as little as £50 for a year, a small amount to pay for a years advertisement. Visit www.aurawebdesign.co.uk and request some info from him, you can also see my website -Radiant Living on there. They are a fab idea- how many times have you been looking for stuff on google and come across other peoples website- great advertisment.

My hubby did my website for me using publisher, didnt cost a penny!! I bought my domain name from www.getdotted.com cost me £17 for 2 years, could have had a cheaper one, they start from £9.99!! that is all I have paid out! I think the ones with the advertising on are off putting (JMO) It drives me mad when I'm looking at someones site and pop up's keep coming up, i'd rather pay the £8.50 per year and not have that, dont like those really long web addresses either...... www.someone/viasomeoneelse/freeola......etcetc...

I have had quite a few enquiries from people who have found me via my website and it comes up quite high in the search engines (dont pay anything for this) Seanny has been a godsend with his advice, and he's free too!! I dont see the sense in paying out £50 per year for a web site company when it can be done much cheaper? you can have a free web page on the nail directory if you dont want to do it yourself.... xx
