Hi wondering if anyone can help me. I'm no nail geek so bear with me. My third toenail is lifting away from the nail bed but down near the cuticle. There is no yellowing or discolouration from what I can see its more pale like whiter. I can feel aswell that it's lifting when I ran my finger over it. Any advice as to what I can do? I'm terrified that the nail will come off it's not terrible but wanted to know if I could prevent it becoming worse.
Many thanks in advance x

It sounds like it's ready to come off, underneath the white you see is the new toenail coming threw.
It's happened a couple of times to me, I just waited for it to come off naturally and make sure until then you give it a good dry after a shower ect xx

Agree with lila, have you walloped it? Maybe a few months ago? x

Hi, not that I recall but I am clumsy so it's very possible. Ok will keep an eye on it. Many thanks for the help xx

I couldn't think when I'd done my big toenail, got quite a shock!
If you do worrying about catching it just pop a plaster on, but do keep it dry so you don't get any damp underneath :) xx

I got a blister under my big toe from running...the blister popped and I had a white patch under my nail but that was just where it had detached due to the blister, that was last October - it's still attached and growing out nicely - halfway now, but it did get damp, so is a bit green underneath, lol - so I would say don't worth too much, you may be ok.

I've got the same thing with my big toe nail at the moment. I had a fall a few months back and it's started lifting in the last couple of weeks. Now the nail has grown some more, I can see a deep horizontal ridge where the damage occured and the lifting starts from there. It's growing but slowly so I should think yours will come back too

Sounds like onycholysis, seperation of the nail from the nail bed normally cause from trauma lots of solar oil should help,

Could have been caused by the toenail constantly hitting the inside of your shoe
It happens a lot with walkers & runners
Keep the toenail short and not constricted by tight shoes or socks, and it will reattach eventually.

Ok thanks will start using my solar oil. Just freaked me out as its the bottom of the nail :)
