I'm so totally gutted. I have enrolled in college. I was given the choice of doing a Monday and Wednesday or a Tuesaday and a Saturday. I chose the Tues and Saturday. This is the days I could do due to my husbands work commitments.

I received a letter on Saturday asking me to go into the college on Monday the 5th to pick up my time table, meet my Tutor and the other students on the course. So off I went only to find a reception area full of ladies waving the same letter as me. A member of staff came out saying that we should not have turned up until next week.

On top of that, we asked about the time table for the Tuesday and Saturday course only to be told that the course being run on those days had been cancelled!

I phoned the college this morning and it has been cancelled. I'm so down about it as I have bought all my kit and uniform (£350.00). I have spoken to the wholesalers and I can take my kit back but I can't send my uniform back as I have had to have it altered.

I have spent most of today trying to find another college that does the same course but they are all full now inderstanderbly. I am now going to have to wait another year now:(

I am going to try and see if I can get training through a salon but I don't think they would be interested in me as I feel I might be too old. I'm 40 now. And I think salons are looking for school leavers.

Thank you for reading this. I just needed to blow off some steam and don't want to keep getting upset. I'm off now to take another couple of headache tablets or I feel my head will explode!!!:)

One thing I know, I will NOT be enrolling at this college next year!

so sorry to hear this, are there any local private training places near you?

Aaw so sorry hun. Why did they cancel the classes on Tuesday and Saturday? So unprofessional. I'm 38 and am doing my training at a beauty salon and they have been fantastic. Assessments, case studies and lots of help and guidance. I had a bad experience before hand so I know how you must be feeling. Keep smiling, stay positive and do a wee search on-line. Hope you get something sorted out.

oh no thats awful! i was in a similar situation and thoguht i would have to wait another year but was lucky enough to find a hairdressing course at another college starting January, you could maybe see if theres anywhere offering January start dates? or private training like Saks etc?

Sorry to hear about your disappointing day hon, I feel for you. I hope you find an alternative to waiting another whole year.

I've had a very stressful and disappointing week so far myself and I too have a horrid tension headache.

Have a good cry and a good nights sleep, hopefully you'll feel a little more positive in the morning and will have a clear head for course hunting.

Good luck x

Oh dear! How awful! I feel so sorry for you!

I've done a 1 year course in college and that was a terrible mistake and complications from the beginning! I even been accused at the end of not paying for the course (which I paid for in full 11 months earlier) and was told to prove them I've paid coz they lost my payment records! And I talk about £985!!!

Colleges can be so disappointing and the don't care about people, don't respect out time and don't bother to stick to the promises they give. Sometimes I think that if they were private companies they wouldn't make till the end of their first tax year :)

I really feel sorry for you!!!! Hopefully you'll find something instead xxxx

what about ringing all the colleges back that where full and ask them to give you a call if a place comes available?...

you know their always dropping out because they go into it thinking its a piece of cake and its not!!!
in my class at college ended up down to about 10 from 20 because they didnt like it or they got pregnant..

(this is just my experience im not saying all young girls are like this=]..)

yeah your right most salons want school leavers, but you never know it might be worth a try =]

good luck x

Thanks for your kind comments guys:).

Had a damn good cry last night. My Husband is brilliant and always makes me see the good out of a bad situation.

The college that I enrolled in was not my first choice. The college I wanted (which has a very good reputation for hair and beauty)was full by June. My husband is always very encouraging with anything I want to do but he did say last night that maybe this has happened for a reason and if this has happened now before the course (the tutors and staff not communicating)it may be a blessing in disguise that this has happened.

We are taking my kit back today. But I was worried about not being able to return my uniform, to which my husbands reply was "well it saves you buying it next year"! Bless him.

I'm seeing things a little more clearly today:confused: and if anyone knows of a salon that could offer a 40 year old some work experience in the Hertfordshire area I would be grateful.

Here's hoping!
