Hi all

I'm newly qualified and I was wondering how long it takes the more experienced among you to remove gel polish, manicure and apply new gel polish.

Also, how long did it take you to get to that speed?

Many thanks

Removal, and reapply an hour

Application only, 35/40 mins

If I worked in a busy salon with back to back clients probably faster but I'm a home salon and we're all about the chatting and catching up

Wow, I'm way off that. How long would you say it took you to get to that speed?

Also, would you mind sharing exactly what you do?

I've been using CND Shellac since its launch....i can't remember how long that it...4/5 years maybe more :rolleyes:

Standard CND application procedure

Wrap in foil soak for 8 and a half minutes - wipe and orange stick remove residue
Push back cuticles
Reduce length and reshape free edge
Scrubfresh
Shellac application
Cuticle oil
Done :D

I take about 1h for a full application. I'm dead slow but 1h slots means I don't rush. I do nails as a side thing so don't get the practise other ppl here get. I find I spend a long time on prep, my filing takes a lot longer than I want it to, but that's just lack of practise.

I find giving yourself time slots for each stage helps me think about my speed and where I need to put effort into improving.

I'm the same as Trinity. I'm a home salon and when needed I can do it in 45 mins however I had a friend in today and it took 2 hours lol. She had lots of nail art and coffee and even more chat [emoji4]

Including arrival/welcome, removal and reapplication, rebooking and goodbyes I book out 1hr 15. Using top quality, easy to remove products makes this possible. I use CND Shellac.

I used to work in a salon where we worked back to back - usually with no lunch/tea breaks - so I had to be quick!
I can do a gel polish mani in about 30 minutes (+15 minutes extra if they need a removal) but I prefer to book out a full hour slot.
I remove one nail at a time (buff shiny layer and apply foil) then move onto the next finger. Then once I've applied the foils I ask the client if they'd like a tea/coffee.
I find usually by the time I've finished all 10 fingers and made a cup of tea the first finger I applied foils to is ready to come off.
Also during the appointment I ask them when/if they'd like to rebook to get them thinking about what dates/times are best suited to them - this makes rebooking a lot quicker as we've already confirmed what dates and times are good for the client.

This is great, thank you. This may be a daft question but do you soak and remove cuticles with cuticle clippers or just push back?

Thank you, that's really helpful. I know I'm going to take a bit longer to begin with and I definitely need to speed up my polish application. I've ordered a training hand so I get more practice.

Thank you for responding. I'm using Ink London and removal only takes 8 mins, so probably 15 in total when I add on wrapping the nails and then removing any remaining residue. 1hr 15 is where I want to get to.

That sounds more like me, minus the nail art! If I started that yet they'd be with me all day!

Thanks Anna, that makes me feel better as I'm not far off this although all the challenges I'm having with Ink L are causing me to be even longer than I was for my assessments. I'll get there, I hope

It's all just down to practise, focus on getting your application spot on, speed will then come with practise and confidence! X

Wise words and you're absolutely right, thank you

I never cut cuticles! I may trim any seriou sticking up bits but no cutting. If your client uses solar oil regularly then your work becomes even easier as there is not much to do.

I don't think I've used my nippers since my course...

If applying gel polish I use a cuticle remover and use a metal cuticle pusher before application. If I'm doing a spa manicure kind of treatment, I soak and do the pampering part after the gel polish application.

That's what I meant, apologies. Obviously never cut the actual cuticle.
