I'm having a bit of a blonde crisis! For some reason I'm scared of using bleach with 40vol, but by using a lower strength developer I'm not getting the white blonde results that I want. Can you use bleach with 40vol to balayage on brown hair without it damaging it? Does olaplex/colorphlex really work to protect hair during this process? I do use it, but I still worry. By using 20/30vol with foils I can get a whiter blonde, but I've never managed it with freehand techniques. Basically, I'm asking, do I have to use bleach with 40vol to get white blonde on brown hair and is it safe to do so? Thanks in advance for your help

What bleach and developer are you using as it makes quite a difference to the outcome when you’re wanting a higher lift?
40 vol with bleach is fine for freehand techniques if it’s not touching the scalp because it can dry out quite quickly as it’s not in foils. Olaplex will re-connect broken disulphides bonds within the cortex but it can’t repair cuticle scale damage so you still need to be sensible.

You can use 40vol for open air colouring like Freehand but not everyone is an Freehand or Balayage client. For lift and lighter levels you make still needs to insulate to get the lift so I do a lot of foilage techniques rather than Freehand
