Hi All, had my first paying customer tonight.............working from home now as day job isn't paying enough :( Anyhow, had it all set up, 6 cartridge wax machine heated, etc., lady turned up with very little hair (despite my telling her yesterday at patch test that it would be difficult to remove as very little growth), anyhow, proceeded, everything was going fine then my roller cartridge heads decided to stick, couldn't get them to budge, decided to turn up the heat again which helped but then the wax didn't grip a lot of the hairs as they were too short. To cut a long story short, it took me 1.5 hours to do half leg and underarm, I'm gutted here now and think this is probably the beginning of the end............I'm meticulous in what I do and wanted to get every hair with wax and the ones I couldn't I tweezed so not sure if I was doing her a favour at all as she likes quick jobs, but in this case the quick job would have meant not such a good job! Is there any reason for the roller heads sticking and how do I overcome this if it happens again. :o

Usually they stick if the wax isnt warm enough. If it is warm enough and this still happens then roll it on a wax strip.
I find rollers are hopeless for short hairs. I have a client that cant wait very long inbetween as she is a swimming instructor so it defo has to be pot and spatula as you will find you can press down harder on the skin, which gets the hairs down better.

Thanks KylieB, really daunting to be honest, 1.5 hours for a half leg and underarm!!! I don't mind, I was happy to do it as I felt I did the best job I could considering the length of the hair but she was being pinickity, it's very daunting to start off new. BTW, I should mention, I qualified as a beauty specialist in Feb 2010 but haven't practiced it as I work full time in an office job. Maybe now that will explain better my fear! And I'm dreading doing an eyebrow tint otherwise comfortable enough with everything else, fingers crossed :) This woman today could make me or break me as I live in an estate and word spreads...........

Well don't see it as a bad thing! You are never going to be 100% good at everything first off. We have all been there and things like this add to experience. So put it down to that hun and move on from it. Tomorrow is another day right :)
What are you dreading about your eyebrow tints?

Well you're going to be shocked at this but we never practiced it as college, we only did eyelash tints, so I've been looking at You Tube and there are many disasters out there! Is the tint only supposed to touch the hair itself or do you get some on the skin too??

I think it would be very hard to tint brows without getting tint on the skin. And tint on the skin can be a good thing because it can give a sparse brow some body. However, you must not leave the tint on very long, seriously. Brow hairs take the tint much quicker than lashes and can look very severe if left on too long. Also, do not leave any tint on the skin for any time at all where you don't want it, if that makes sense.

Now, back to waxing. In time, you will have the confidence to say no to people. If hair isn't long enough - say no.
