Ok, doing my level 3 at the moment, and I've been asked by a friend of a friend of a friend to do her hair for her wedding in August. Told her I am doing level 3 which involves bridal and have tried to get her to come to college for trials, 1 to keep her costs down and 2 so that I can use her for assessments!! But unfortunately she can't due to child care. Anyway, I've not been asked to do a brides hair before, and tbh it is something I've found I'm pretty good at and my tutor says I've got a real talent for it, now my concern is, what should I be thinking of charging, as in my eyes she's almost doing me a favour as its my first bridal client and there's 2 flower girls and 2 bridesmaids to be done. Im thinking of potential new clients that she might recommend! And she's agreed to letting me use photos of all of them for my portfolio. Sorry it's a bit long but I do have a tendency to waffle in a bit! :-/ thanks in advance!!

You need to charge something at least. Even if its a reduced rate. Think of the hairspray, hair pins you go through for a hair up and then 2 others, not to mention your time and travel to the venue or where ever the bride is getting ready.

The fact is you have mentioned you are good at it, so it isn't going to be a 'mickey mouse job'. I would do a trial or two first, even if it was outside of college time. In my area a normal hair-up is between £15-£20 but bridal hair is a least double that. So it is good to get into, and its nice your friend has considered you for her big day

Have a look see what the going rate is in your area first maybe??

I would work out what ur going to charge others, then take off a percentage. My bridal hair including makeup is £100 to £150 for the bride alone, then £50 per person for just hair up or £75 with makeup afterwards. There's also the compulsory trial at £75 per bride and £40 for others if they have makeup or not.

Being a cheeky bigger my first bride was charged full as I didn't want her saying ooh it was only £x to other brides and them being dissapointed the price was higher xoxo

I charge per hour, but I'm thinking I'm cheap.. I charge £50 per hour, sometimes I've another stylist with me at that price.. I normally do 4 people inc the bride in about 3-4 hours.. I do about 10-15 brides a year..

I thought of an hourly rate, but thought the brides would be stressed enough without wondering how much the total bill will be. And didn't want them complaining I took longer than needed to make more money.
Forgotten to say I have a charge for early starts that applies to all clients of £50 if I have to start between 7:30 and 9, and £100 for after 6 on a Saturday or any time on a sunday. Late finishes in the week ( not my normal hours ) is £25 before 10pm and £50 after, on top of their service, even if it's just for a skin test xoxo
