Hi All, just popping over from beauty. So I always like my hair to be nice and blonde usually have a high lift tint, and a darker blonde. But this is what I got I feel like an Alsatian ! My hair wasn't sectioned off securely, the foils felt loose and she hardly put any in. Usually I have tons of foils through my hair. I wondered if I can book in somewhere else and have more blonde put through it will this ruin my hair ?

Can you post a pic with your hair falling naturally?

Is it the same place you usually go to? Was the salon very busy? What did you ask for and agree on?

She might have been trying to get through her appointments more quickly by doing fewer foils, but I can only guess.

You really should have told her you weren't happy and that you wanted more foils packing in, if that's how you felt. It's a bit pointless smiling and paying and then complaining after you've left. Presumably, you'd want to know if a client of yours was unhappy?

Yes, you can go somewhere else but you're going to be paying for another full highlighting service whereas if you'd mentioned it at the time, you could have left feeling genuinely happy.

Yes I said I wanted to be very blonde and said can I have 1 bleach, 1 tint and a slightly darker blonde. She is mobile and came to my house at 5pm. I've not seen her before and I dried it myself, perhaps not the best idea but I kind of knew she wasn't doing it as if liked by her technique compared to my old hairdresser. But I didn't want to tell her how to do it. Perhaps I'll get in touch to tell her it's too dark. I don't like complaining at all. Here's a pic of hair down, it's a bit scruffy after being put up slightly damp

Well, that's not what you could reasonably call 'very blonde' but the statement is definitely open to misinterpretation as it stands. A gold blonde level 7 for instance looks completely different to a cool blonde level 10.

Did you show her any pictures of what you like? If not, look on Pinterest or similar and find some images to show her what you want to achieve.

I'm guessing you wanted something multi dimensional looking rather than a flat all over colour but you need to be much more clear. I'm not surprised she misinterpreted your request if you told her to apply 1 bleach, 1 tint (?) and a dark blonde. A dark blonde would be a level 6 or 7 and you definitely don't need to go that low. Plus you only need one darker foil to every 3 or 4 lighter foils for a subtle hint of depth.

Is she fairly newly qualified, do you think? I wouldn't really be interested in you telling me what colours to choose or in what ratio. I'd be more concerned about obtaining a good consultation and understanding exactly what you want to achieve and discussing how realistic your expectations are and the potential upkeep required.

Tip for future appointments...if you don't feel 100% confident that your hairdresser understands exactly what you're after following a detailed consultation, don't go ahead with the service. If the consultation is very short or non-existent, you're unlikely to be satisfied by the end result.

Thanks for your reply. As I know nothing about hair when I say I want a bleach, the lightest high lift tint and a slightly darker shade blonde I am only going by what I usually always have had for the last 14 years, I know nothing of levels, ratios of foils, cool or warm etc. Other hairdressers seem to have understood me in the past. I didn't realise it was such a vague request ? Just I want 'a lot' of blonde highlights! I have contacted her to tell her it is far to dark and not what I asked for. I don't feel it is my fault for being to vague. I've only asked for what I usually have.

It is quite vague. But not entirely your fault. The stylist should have reiterated what she thought you meant. X

Thank you. I think the thing is I said I'm usually very light blonde and I said that it is currently too dark and I want to go much lighter. But after all her efforts it looks no different than before she started. I think that's why I'm so miffed because it looks exactly the same

I can so relate to this
I went to the hairdresser few days ago and didn't realized what I said was kinda vague. I wanted a transition color between my roots and the blonde in my hair, and the ends lighter.
I ended up with brown/ light brown hair with a blonde tie and dye at the very end of it

So yeah definitly be super super clear about what you want, otherwise you'll get the opposite

A question though, is your hairdresser willing to correct your hair for free ?

No, she hasn't said anything other than "I only put a few Browns through to break it up " she hasn't offered anything It was my first time seeing her too

too bad, i wish there would be more hairdressers that would offer free services when their clients are unhappy

The problem is, that it isn't a badly done job. It was just miscommunication.

I usually say to my clients that the first time I do their hair I'm still getting used to it, so we can tweak the colour next time.
