Does anyone have any idea what a "tin foil manicure" could possibly be? I read about it somewhere but it had no further details and I've searched but can't come up with anything. It seemed to be a sort of effect, and used regular kitchen foil but I don't know anything more than that.

I'm assuming it isn't just plain old nail foiling - anyone know anything further?

I've never heard of this but would be interested to know lol

It's ringing vague bells with me as a technique that people used to create a crackle look before crackle/shatter nail varnish existed, but I can't be sure that's what you're talking about.

That's interesting. It's certainly more info than I've been able to find so far. Could you explain more about the technique - what do you do and how do you use the foil?

Here's my best guess: you would take a piece of foil, crinkle it up and straighten it out. It will then have a pattern in it. Then, lay down the foil in the wet polish and you would have a pattern in the polish.

That's really the only thing I can think of. :)

I saw a cliebt come in and have a piece of foil on one of her nails, have no idea what for but ahe had gels on at the time and wanted that one off because of mould underneath it.

is it gold leafing? x

I genuinely have no idea. Is gold leafing using nail adhesive and nail foil? If so, I don't think so because the idea was that kitchen foil was used, but I could be wrong. I think nana has come up with the most likely but I really don't know and would welcome more suggestions.

Just picturing the roll in the drawer here.

Tin foil manicure, sounds classy:biggrin::biggrin:

Sort of a cheap value nail wrap then? It looks like a real pain. She was having trouble enough using a tip on a stick so I can't imgaine what it would be like to do a client's nails.

I think I will give Nana's idea a go to see what effect that gives but this might be one to stay away from.

Are those nails foils using adhesive? The result is very effective.

It's very very thin foil, that i stick to wet acrylics and encapsulating

Hi, I've been using the Glitzy Lups foil on top of the shellac and it looks amazing! One of the lady's had it on on the Sweet Squared stand at Olympia. You do 2 coats of colour shellac (base coat underneath obviously) then get a bit of the glitzy lip foil and dot it on to the colour shellac. Top coat over and cure and dsperse to finish and you're done. Blackpool with wine me over or the hot pink on my toes and fingers today and looks amazing. X good luck

I've achieved this affect with silver leaf. I'd never put aluminum foil on a client's nails. I think they'd think I was out of my mind. ;)

I don't think you do put the foil on your nails. I know there was an earlier post about attaching kitchen foil to your nails but I really don't think this is the tin foil manicure I have heard about. That kind of thing isn't realistic or effective, when you have hundreds of designs of various nail wraps available.

I think Nana was more on the money with her idea, but I'd love to know for sure if anyone else has any ideas.

This is a photo of a nail I did about 2 years ago lol the photo is all odd looking but you get the idea I used
NFU.OH soft foil they have it in gold and silver it's not like a wrap or like the traditional nail foil/ glitzy lip transfer types this is more like gold leaf , thin and very delicate.

There is something else I use to do but no one wants my enhancements any more ( bloody Power polish lolol)

If you get some thicker foil like hair dressing foil or a magis wrap ,

you can then use a ball point pen to draw into it flowers , wavy lines , circles , patterns leafs look good , any thing ,

Then Turn the foil over so the indent is raised ,

Put it on your form

Do a clear or taransparent overlay ( maybe using color drops or NFU.OH jelly collection or even colored gel mixed in clear.

When cured remove foil and the pattern will be there , can do some amazing effects like this ,

A bit like before double glazed windows when the winter frost makes the patterns .
