Hi,

Apologies if this is a really daft question, but what's the difference between glitters and pigments? I want to order some magpie glitters but also noticed pigments? Just wondering what's the difference and the difference in how they're used?

Thanks xx

Pigments are more like fine powders, whereas glitters are tiny particles of colour.

Both are effective though.

Glitter is glitter but d pigments can be used for ombré effects 2 tone if u get glitter pigments can get mermaid effect etc;

The difference is the particle size. Most of the glitters are 008, blossom is 004. I think the dusts are 002 or possibly 004. The pigments are a finely milled powder. The glitters give a blingy glittery effect. The dusts give a shimmering sparkle effect. The pigments give a coloured effect, when applied over a white base they will look basically the same as they do in the jar. I got the neon coral pigment in my delivery yesterday, so pretty and a lovely smooth texture to work with.

Are pigments used for gel polish or mainly acrylic work? I'm still at college learning but love to research and have play with different things I come across. Many thanks for your replies xx

They're used for both. I only use them over Shellac though, this was Asphalt grey Shellac, I applied a white shimmer powder and this was the look I got. It was gorgeous in real life, ac real mermaid type shimmer.
