hi all, i am opening my first salon in a couple of weeks  and obviously need to stock up on colours. Which brand would you recommend? i dont want a brand with a huge range of colours and need them to be as cheap as possible. at the minute im thinking of alfaparf or matrix.

Any suggestions?

thanks.

Hi,
At the salon I work at we use Wellas Kadus. It's a lovely product and the violets/reds are goregous colours.
According to the rep they are exactly the same colour which is in koleston perfect tubes, but in different packaging.

MATRIX all the way we have had excellent training from them , we have a great Rep thanks Michael he has really helped us a LOT, also they have not put prices up this year as they are wanting to help salons out which is nice and they also have great shows, Deffo recommend

I would go with kadus or matrix for value. However, I really prefer working with Koleston.

It depends if you want to employ stylists. Good hairdressers won't want to work in a salon using cheap colours, they expect koleston or majirel. If you are not employing, then just use what you are trained in.

We use koleston. I love it. I would be very apprehensive to try anything but wella as I'm really happy with what I get from wella and cost wise, it's not that bad. Yes it is more expensive than what you could pick up in sallys but I have clients who seek me out cos I'm a wella salon, if I told clients I use matrix I can gaurantee none of them have heard of it = they won't have as much faith in it. I know someone who uses... A substandard brand and you can definitely tell. As long as you have priced your colours correctly then you will not need to worry about losing out/spending too much money. Good luck

Matrix is a very well known brand Kimi, it is 3rd biggest color brand in the UK, i would not say it is sub standard at all, i could say the same for Wella as i use to be a Wella user myself and when i compare my Matrix color there is NO way i would go back to Wella now, the shine and the aftercare of the hair after color is applied is SO much better, no more khaki tones now as that is what i found with Wella to much khaki tone in them !!!
Also at £5.49 a tube for 90ml VERY good value and this is only available at selected wholesalers too, so you know you get a good service when you order and for me especially in a salon with 9 staff we get loats of education, we have Free training at least every 4 months on latest techniques and we have a course next month on product knowledge and Retail all for free where as most Companies inc Wella would charge you to go on courses like this !!!!!

thanks for the replies, i am trained in wella, matrix, clynol and alfaparf but the salon just down the road uses wella so i wanted to use a different brand. People have heard of matrix here and i do find that the colours always turn out lovely. alfaparf have offered me a fanstastic deal but not many people have heard of them. i havnt used clynol for about 5 years so dont think id trust myself with them tbh.

Hi

Well one of my stylists has just moved bless her to the outskirts and is setting up as we speak and Matrix have done her as an intro. 20 colors of her choice, free shade chart, 4 developers and a FREE color trolley all for £100.00 plus VAT, plus some in salon training, so you cant go wrong, whats alfaparf ? is it russian ?
Also all the very best for your new venture, you must be so excited :)

alfaparf are itallian, i have been using them for about 2.5 years in the salon that i currenly work in (havnt told my boss about my new venture and dont plan on doin untill the lease is signed). i think im leaning more towards marix now as i use them when i do mobile. :)

I didn't say (or mean to imply) that matrix was substandard. I meant another brand which I'm not going to name. Basically my point was I get a lot of clients because I use wella and I know most of my clients haven't heard of matrix.

Cannot go wrong with Matrix, good luck

RUSK you get the colour and with that one tube you have 2 different developers 1 if you want the colour as permanent and if you want it as a semi you use the different developer. So basically its one tube for all. Plus you get more in the tint tube.

i deal with the local distributor Rendezvous in Derby, infact i was in there yesterday and they had a Mega deal in there for new users, 10 x colors of your choice and a free developer and large shade chart for £54.00.
When we brought ours for the salon we got a welcome kit and we had one of every shade and got loads free this was about £400 but i deal with Rendezvous in Derby abd they are so helpful and have great deals
