Hi
just a thought just wondered who dosnt actually wear nail extensions themselves and if you dont how do you justify this when trying to sell a service.

Cheers Babes

I don't. The way I justify it is that I do a LOT of nail biters. I always bit my nails until I started having extensions, it took me 2 years to really break the habit, but I did, so I'm a good advert to give nail biters hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

However I am still a demon picker, and I just fiddle and faff with them all the time so they end up looking pretty trashed all the time and not a good advert at all!

I don't usually wear them because I'm far too lazy....urm busy to do my own...although I did a pretty decent set just lately which I'm hoping to rebalance rather than soak off.

Well, when I'm not wearing enhancements, I'm pretty lucky because I have a nice natural nail and as a rule of thumb clients don't that's why they're coming to see us in the first place, so luckily, I don't have a problem in that respect.

I don't think clients expect to see technicians wearing enhancements because for one thing they're very aware of that kak hand.... which is something that puts me off doing my own especially when you're working on your own and don't have any salon buddies to help you out.

What do you do Nikki, do you tend to wear them or not?

Hi Nikki,

I always wear enhancements, however my other nail technician never wears them. She is always getting asked how come she doesnt wear them herself, and its simply because she cannot do them on herself, and i never have the time to put a set on for her! She has got amazing nail plates, in fact she was my model when i did my masters. I personally would like her to wear enhancments all the time, as clients want to see your nails before entrusting you with theirs, but its her choice and i cant force her!!

I always wear them I would hate a client ask me why not!!!

but I find it hard work as I always want them to look perfect and struggle finding the time to keep my own nails up to scratch when Im so busy doing everyone elses.

I would love to have someone else do them but the same thing again clients always ask do you do your own nails they are your advert I think!!

I agree Nikki,

All my clients ask me if i do my own nails and how! Its practice. Im also fanatical about my nails looking perfect, and after a couple of re-balances my nails dont look perfect, not to me any way! I change my nails all the time, almost weekly, this week i have them painted bright pink, last week they were bright orange, and im off to a wedding on sat so they will be all gold and bronze glitter for that, oohhhh i cant wait! I love my nails when they are first done!

...I removed my enhancements in March of this year thinking it would just be a temporary thing, but now they are off it's kinda nice being enhancement free.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my enhancements, but I'd NEVER be satisfied with them on myself and always think I could improve them so I'd constantly be fiddling and working on them!

Now I always wear French polish on my natural nails and if that encourages my clients to dot the same then thats fine by me!

I know what you mean

That's me, I'm the same!

That's definitely not me, I'm a Frenchaphobic!

Wear them all the time, can be a pain sometimes as it is quite difficult to do my own. But I love them and it is a great advertisment!

Wearing them at the moment only because tehyare a lovley set. lol Wish mine looked like.
Im another nail biter and grew my nails for the first time and can retails solar oil to eskimos because i believe in it so much my nails were the proof in the pudding.

ps cos im too lazy to do my own anymore as well as i butchered them somuch in the past lol

I've worn extensions for the last 3 years without any gaps....i would do them religiously every other week to ensure they always looked perfect! I decided to take them off a few months ago when i was around two months pregnant only because my nails have been growing so quickly I just haven't been able to keep up with them! I do always make sure they are nicely manicured and have lovely polish on them though!!

Most of the time I wear enhancements as my nails get a lot of battering. Saying that, I have nice natural nails so I can get away with just polishing them. I never have my nails completely bare, if I have no enhancements, they are polished with nail art or sparkly top coat. I change my nails frequently so that clients see me with different nails each time they come in. It is always a talking point & gets clients to try out different things too. If a client asks me why I'm not wearing enhancements I just tell them I have been too busy to do my own lately so thought I'd try out a new polish instead. My regulars always comment on whatever I've done with my nails which they wouldn't if they always looked the same. It's very rare that I have plain french these days as nobody notices them! I also do my staff's nails differently to my own so people can see a few different things when they come in. It's good to try out new things on yourself, clients will always notice your hands.

I've taken mine off and really sad without them. I have added massage to my list and also reflexology. Doing them with any 'bit' of a nail has proved an impossibility for me!

If you have short nails, wear a really funky polish & nail art to make them stand out. I'm currently wearing Creative's Black Light collection bright red with a sparkly gold glitter top coat, it looks fab & really gets noticed.

I dont wear any extensions, but I do wear biosculpture gel overlays on my natural nails. I have a choice of wearing french or colour overlays.
When I was doing my beauty therapy course, I wasnt able to wear any at all, as I had to keep my nails short and natural.
My clients always asked me why I didnt wear any overlays and I had to constantly explain to them it was because of the course.
Now that I am wearing the gel, my clients tend to want what I am wearing and it shows a good example to newbies who want to see what the gel looks like before they try it!

I do not wear them I can not do my own nails and do not have the time really to do them it would take me ages.

My nails are not a bad length I look after them file them and either wear just a shinney top coat or sometimes a colour.

I do my own nails and although my right hand isnt quite as good as the left I love them.
Confession time - I am a picker and once I start I find faults in them and then they are all getting filed down to re-do or lying in a wee pile next to me. Very bad I know!
I start back at College in a couple of weeks (HND Beauty Therapy) and wont be allowed to wear any BOO HOO!!
My own nails are pathetic ~ peeling & chipping, I have tried the remedies but still cant make anything of them. Wonder if I could get away with a clear overlay....

This thread has cheered me up no end!

Yesterday I once again made a complete pigs ear of my own nails trying to do l&p on them - and once again I wrecked my confidence!!!

I know I can do them on other people but I just can't do my own and was worrying that I had to have them on myself if I was going to put them on other people! (Sal~on Nails is open for business this Saturday, by the way!!!).

Now I will feel more confident just wearing bright polish or nail art.

I wouldn't be able to wear enhancements from September anyway as I'm off to college to do NVQ beauty therapy.

I won't give up on doing my own completely BUT now I'll go without them with more confidence and not beat myself up for not wearing my own enhancements.

Thanks guys :)

I don't wear enhancements as I have nice natural nails. My clients are not suspicious at the fact I don't wear enhancements cause it is obvious I don't need them. A lot of my clients don't have enhancements either, they have manicures. Although I love doing enhancements, I am a great believer in the natural nail and like promoting good natural nail care too. I do try and keep my nails nicely polished because, even though they are my natural nails, they are still a great advert for my business.

Hi

I don't, I did occasionally but to be honest they end up annoying me!

Apart from the above I can't really wear nail enhancements as I do massage and facials as well, and you would catch a clients skin with nails.
