Hi ,
Yes it all is a lot to take in . You have 'gel polishes 'such as Gelish,Shellac ect which are designed to go on the natural nail but tends to only be suitable for those with naturally strong nails . The colours are soak off
Then you have UV Colour gels which ,just to confuse things can be soak off or buff off . These tend to be a little stronger ( and thicker )than the Gel Polishes and do not tend to be used straight onto the natural nail although having said that I use it on my toes all the time
THEN you have your Building gel family . These can be soak or buff off , can be self leveling or thicker 'building gels . You CAN use these gels directly onto the natural nail or over tips or in the case of thicker gels for Sculpting. In a good range there will be , Bonders , Base , French Whites , clear & , pinks in varying viscosity's , top gels ect. A colour can then be applied over these
Not everyone will be suitable for the gel Polishes as these do not add strength . If for example you had a customer come to you that had her nails the length she wanted but says she cant keep them that length for long as they break a 'gel Polish probably would not be strong enough so you could apply a 'builder ' gel and then if she wanted colour you can apply EITHER a gel polish or a Gel Colour
If you are going to offer a complete service then you really should undertake 'extension ' training as you are going to be offering a very limited service without it
I hope that has made things a little clearer .. I run Nails International and we have training throughout the year which is accredited by Professional Beauty . If you want any info or any more help just ask
