I have just finished my 1st month being self employed (I do hair and beauty) I qualified 12 years ago but have had a 7 year break being a SAHM so I have totaly started again with clients. Every client I have had in my 1st month was a new customer I got through advertising and their treatments were discounted as a introductory price.
I had 9 customers and made £132 proffit. Is this normal for a 1st month? Luckily we have my partners wage to rely on so I can afford to build up slowly

It's a hard slog. Can take a year to break even and 2 years to make a profit :) Keep up the advertising, make sure you rebook them before they leave and just keeep going :)

My first month was the same but I invested in stock so not much profit by month 6/7 I was on £1.5k/2k part timeish. You will get there you have experience on your side which is good. I was lucky too that my other half supported me- being freelance pays off massively in the long run being a Mum. A profit in month one is good. I would definitely say people are attracted to me because I have updated training/skills and have lose faith in other freelancer due to being stagnant

Yea I agree. While being a sahm I did some short courses in extensions, hair ups and spray tanning to keep my skills up. Im happy with a small proffit especialy as I am only working from home. I am doing driving lessons so will be able to go mobile soon. The only problem I have is ive just found out im pregnant again (total suprise!) I hope to only have a very short break this time, i want this to work
