hi guys, dont know if you can help but i really need some advice! For those of you who dont know i have started renting a table in a salon, where i currently work a friday, until i build up. They have been advertising for me the past few weeks and i am very grateful to them even though i havent had much out of it. The thing is i just sat down to read last nights paper and stumbled across an ad saying NAIL TECHNICIAN BE YOUR OWN BOSS rent an area ina busy salon, with my works telephone number. They havent even metioned anything to me about doing that. Why do you think they would do this? Would it work if there was two of us? I am going into work today but dont know what to do. Should i leave?

Please help.

Show them the ad and ask them what on earth is going on? Confrontation isn't nice, but at least you'll know where you stand. Good luck xxx

I am going to say something, its just that there is two nail tables so thats why they might be advertising for someone else. But i dont get it, i am barely getting shed loads of customers as it is and plus the other girl who does beauty aswell does silk nails too. I just dont get it!

i agree i would ask straight out, you need to know

You need to ask them hun!

Sorry to hear about this! It's not fair hun!

You should definitely ask them about it......let us know what happens.

Hope you get it sorted sweetie xx

Out of courtesy they should have mentioned it ~ not nice that you had to discover the ad. I would def. confront them and ask, its upsetting and unsettling for you and you need to get it resolved for your own piece of mind.
Or you could be mega sneaky and play them at their own game ~ phone up with a false name and enquire about the ad.

OOOOOhh!! I like that idea!! Maybe you should ask if they already have a technician and see what they say!!!!

I hope you get this sorted really soon sweetcheeks!! xx

Hi just wanted to let you know that i went in last friday, but the owners werent there. It was only the younger girls in and i asked them about the ad, but they didnt have a clue about it either. While i was there someone called up about the ad and one of the girls said that she would have to call back as the owners werent in. Later on while i was working one of the owners came in to check if everything was ok and the girl passed on the message to her about the phone call, i just kept my head down until she said something. She eventually came over and said that since there was room for another tec she was going to get another one, she said that she had a phonecall from someone with three years experience, i didnt say anything to her! I cant understand why she wants to do this as i havent had a que of customers yet, never mind finding for two tecs. I really dont know, i am going in to work tonight and i may have a chat about with them.
thanks for your advice guys!xx

i suppose they just want more rent money coming in. if they get someone to agree to pay rent for the spot, they cant loose can they ? even if the tech doesnt make any dosh for her self. seems sneaky and disrespectful to you in my opinion. by rights any new customers should initialy be refered to you until you have a full book unless they specificly ask for the other tech. you could understand it if you had more clients than you could handle already, but i cant think of another good reason other than cashing in on the rent for them to be looking for another tech right now. just my opinion, i could [hopefully ] be wrong.

Yes thats what i was thinking. Doesnt make sense if i havent got that many clients does it? If i was out the door then yes! It looks like they after more money! Oh well, thanks for the advice guys.xx

hey babe thats bad I wouldnt betoo pleased if my salon did that to me at the end of the day if there was that much call surely U could work more days?????

It could be pretty awkward working alongside someone else who is also working self employed who knows what they could be saying to clients about you when your not there- dont get me wrong there are alot of grand lasses out there but I have also found that nails can be a bitchy business too.

I would discuss the pros and conswiththe salonowner and pehaps suggest working extra days rather than employ a new tech if shes funny I would keep an eye out for a new place just incase.

good Luck
