We're so used to putting things on our skin to try and look younger/tighter/thinner/brighter but the newest philosophy to hit the beauty market tells us that we should be putting things in to make our skin healthier.
Canadian company, Ascenta Heath Ltd., has been working on daily supplements designed specifically to do all those things that our face creams promise to do. The company is pioneering a new trends in health and beauty known as oral cosmeceuticals - a clever blending of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
The company's signature ingredient is omega 3 and they have been championing the power of this ingrediient since they were founded in 2003. Omega 3s are anti-inflammatory, hydrating and help to decrease skin's sensitivity to UV rays. Using this ingredient, the company have developed Ascent Skin, a one-a-day fish oil supplement that builds healthy skin from the inside out.
"This is entirely new thinking on how we deliver beauty benefits to the skin. As our company has evolved and technology has advance, we've been able to get into these more condition-specific formulations," explains founder and chief executive officer Marc St-Onge. "And, because of the demands for good quality, efficacious and natural beauty products, it was a natural progression for us."
St-Onge explains that the scientific advances have allowed for a greater understanding of the micro-environment of our skin and how the various active ingredients affect the different layers. Because the epidermis acts as a barrier to outside toxins, St-Onge explains that traditional topical beauty and anti-ageing products don't fully deliver as only minimal volumes of active ingredients reach the sub-layers of skin.
"Inflammation plays a big role in the overall ageing of our skin and the look and appearance of our skin, like firmness, hydrations and colour tone, actively starts from the inner layers of our skin which are nourished by the blood...We're not saying you don't need topical products anymore...We're saying if you look at the pyramid of how we build healthy skin, the base is Ascenta Skin."
It's all very well and good, but how easy will it be to change consumer habits in terms of how they look after their skin? "It's not the first time people have heard of 'beauty within' but there's a big learning curve for a lot of consumers. Early indicators tells us there is significant interest for products like this. We're pioneering what will become a more prominent trend in beauty."
Ascent Health launches today in the USA and Canada.
Until then...geek on!
