Easydry has got behind the worldwide Billion Acts of Green campaign by launching an appeal to its salon partners to do the same. Over the next few weeks in the run-up to Earth Day on 22 April, Easydry will be encouraging salons to make their own pledges on the Billion Acts of Green website by highlighting suggestions made by their partner salons on how live and work in a more sustainable way. A Billion Acts of Green was launched in 2010 on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and people around the world have since made more than 1 billion pledges to be more eco-friendly; for example by composting or by cutting down energy use. The aim is to reach 2 billion even quicker.

"Salons using Easydry are already making a huge contribution to the environment," said Easydry CEO Anne Butterly, inventor of the first ever disposable salon towel. "Together we’ve saved more than 160 million litres of water in just five years and with Easydry’s full and transparent accreditation, including being the first and only disposable towel to achieve FSC registration, our clients can be confident they are using the greenest, most absorbent and best disposable towel available. They can and should add their voice to the Billion Acts of Green campaign."

The aim of the Billions campaign is to highlight how individuals can protect the environment and to show politicians and corporations that people do care.

"We know from talking to hairdressers that they and, crucially, their clients are passionate about the environment," added Anne. "Easydry clients are already making a massive contribution to protecting the planet by using our pioneering disposable towels, saving huge amounts of water and energy and reducing demand for cotton. But that’s not their only nod to sustainability. Hairdressers are being hugely innovative in other ways and they should be registering their efforts publicly. That way they can show others how to be more sustainable."

The first Earth Day was on 22 April 1970, and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. Growing out of the first Earth Day, Earth Day Network (EDN) works with more than 22,000 partners in 192 countries to broaden, diversify and mobilise the environmental movement. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic movement in the world.
