Hello :)

Am after some advice on what other mobile beauty & massage therapist's have done when they have found out they are pregnant.

Me & my husband are going to start trying for a baby in the summer. My only worry is that in the early stages of pregnancy I wouldn't want to tell all my clients I was pregnant, in case anything went wrong. But how could I get around not telling them?

My massage couch is fairly heavy, and I don't think I would be able to get it in and out the car while pregnant without risking the baby.

I could ask my clients to help me with my couch but would have to come up with a reason I couldn't carry the bed?

How has anyone else dealt with this?

Thanks in advance

I just got on with it. Not sure which couch you have, mine isn't that heavy.

I'm 29 weeks, last week I made the decision to restrict myself to no more than 2 massages in a day as my back just wasn't happy doing more, and in the next few weeks might have to think again as my bump is starting to get in the way a bit, only a matter of time before someone gets kicked in the head! but everything else, nails, spray tans, facials lashes, has carried on as normal.

Also meant to say that if you offer aromatherapy massage you will need to be careful which essential oils you use.

I definitely think keeping quiet is a good idea at the beginning, you'll be suprised at how capable you will be up until the last trimester anyway. But, personally I would be considering about starting to go more home-based as it will work in your favor once baby is here and better around family life. If you are good at what you do im sure many of your clients will be happy to travel and those who dont dedicate one or two days a week to spend out on the road mobile. Good luck baby making! X

I'm not sure being a mobile therapist, going to people's homes to give them a relaxing massage, then asking them to lug your bed around for you will work really.

You could look for some kind of trolley or something to wheel it around from your car to the house, but if you feel that lifting it in and out of your car will be risky then you'll probably need to drop any treatments that involve using it.

I get a massage when my back is playing up, the last thing I'd be expecting to do is lift the therapist's bed in and out of their car for them.

It's been a long time since I was mobile and pregnant, but i just got on with it as well. My couch wasn't particularly heavy.

I couldn't agree more with KrisKross - I definitely wouldn't have clients carrying my bed for me.

I also recommend keeping it to yourself for the first trimester.
