Hello All, I am starting back up on nails after 8 years of working in an office (yay - but boooo so expensive) :) I have a refresher course next week as I really want it to go well this time, anyway as you can imagine with me starting all over again from scratch is going to be quite costly. I am looking to buy a large amount of Gel Polishes and Bluesky keeps cropping up on various sites at really reasonable prices. I'm aware that its not true Shellac but has anybody any experience with this Polish? I can only find info on line from years ago so I was wondering if maybe they have improved their products over the years? Anyway I would love to hear your thoughts as I need to make quite a large order of polishes so if I can save money that would be a massive help. Thank you x

There are many other threads on Salon Geek relating to this brand, but here's the link to a recent one:

Hi Kimbers1983 !

Im in the same position as you and also finding everything sooo expensive ! I have settled on just offering classic manicure and pedicure for now and then when I can build up a bit ill purchase the complete CND Shellac kit. I think everyone has heard something negative about blue sky ( personally ive never heard anything positive but again , I was looking at things a number of years ago ) . Im trying to build myself first then going for a well known and well loved brand and I know that I can go to them for the conversion course which can offer a certificate at the end . I just think its looks more dedicated but its just my opinion . xxx Good luck with it all ! xxx

The way I done it was got my basic mani/pedi qualification and then done my gel training with the brand that I knew I wanted to use as a professional, their gels are not cheap but with the training I got the starter kit included in the price, researched popular colour choices and bought 4-5 to start off with, and over the two years I have built up a large collection and a vast colour choice, you don't have to start off with every colour, especially with a cheaper brand, as you may end up paying out more in the long run, offer gels to friends and family first and explain you don't have a lot of colours, with the earnings buy another colour, and so on, more experience + more colours. Hth x

Hello,
Thanks for that information - I do agree with you on all you have said to be honest I will hold off while I build my confidence and then save and buy a good brand rather than jumping for something cheaper. I was just worried I would put off new clients as where I live nobody ever has classic Mani anymore they all opt for Acrylic with Gel Colour - I really never see anybody with classic style anymore so I don't want to put hopefully new clients off if I don't have colour on offer. Thanks again ad good luck to you too xxx

Thanks very much, I will research nearby Conversion courses with a good brand and see what I can find. Would you mind telling me which brand you opted for in the end?x

I would say go with a famous brand clients will have heard of - it does help when starting out.
I chose CND Shellac because of this and because you don't buff the nail before applying. Soak off is easy too.
I read loads of threads on here about the different brands before spending anything. Then I spent a few weeks just practicing on family to get everything dead right before launching to clients.

I think I just started with 20 colours and then added a few each month. I now have about 100.
Buying in the new collections as they come out is a good way to expand and then you can use their advert photos in your own promotions.

I bought some blue sky when I first started out , for practicing with. I've never had a problem with them and personally think they are just as good and last just as well as Gelish and NSI Polish Pro which I use now - so why did I change ? Brand recognition / brand conscious clients .

Bluesky is good but go with what your clients will go for usually the well known trusted brands like cnd
