Remember how, back in the day, we used to talk about the 'lipstick factor' and how this cushioned the beauty industry? Then came the age of the manicure, and it was the nail polish factor that took over? Well, like all good trends, the lip is back in fashion.
November saw prestige lip-color sales go up by 24 percent in November, according to a report released by The NPD Group. Speaking to WWD.com, Karen Grant, NPD vice president and global beauty industry analyst said, "The trend of women seeking to make a bold makeup statement continues as marketers showcase lips more prominently than seen in prior years."
According to the research, November saw 1.8 million prestige lip-color products sold in the U.S., up 22 percent over November of last year.
"Lip color can totally transform a womans look, and even affect her mood; thats a lot of benefit for something that costs around $20," Grant said.
So the theory is the same - lipstick and polishes are affordable pots of luxury that can easily and quickly make a woman feel fabulous. Figure out a product like that and you've got a goldmine on your hands (and lips).
Until then geek on!
