Hello All,

I have been in the nail industry a couple of years now......I am however, trying to use all my energy at the moment to go on with it.

It has been my dream to become a really fantastic nail tech, get to the top of my game, but I have a feeling I will not....I have had the chance to rent a space in a really good location, but I think that will fall through now.

I really need to work full time to support my family.....and my nail business can be so up and down.......plus I am a really sensitive person, which does not help too much, I want all clients to be happy all the time!!:( and I know this is not possible.

If I take a full time admin job, I will lose my skills as a nail tech!!!!

Im really confused about what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps. have just read your signature .... do you truly believe this ?? sometimes its hard but you need to take a bit of time out, take a deep breath and start believing in yourself - confidence will take you a long way hun even if deep down you dont completely feel it.

Where abouts in Kent are you ?

Thanks Karen, it helps to have someone who understands. I have felt like this for about 6 months or so now.

I would love to continue to do this job, but I really cannot earn enough at the moment and I am in a catch 22 situation....if I do another job completely, then I lose my experience and if I don't then things just wont get paid....there are days/weeks when I just want to really sell my business and forget about it!!!!!!

Plus, I have had really good training, creative, EZflow, city and guilds etc... and 1-2-1's.

I have been messed about a bit with the renting situation, and it is now being taken over by a new manager and I have been told I am not top priority to them about the decision as to whether I can have the space to them.

As for my signature, no I dont think I do believe this anymore....

Thanks once again, I will let you know how I get on...maybe I am not determined enough??

I live in Dartford (half of the time) - very confusing situation there!!!!!

is there a possiblity you could work from home at all ?

I am in the same situation right now. I took a job part time doing merchandising for the paycheck. I still do nails on the side and will continue to try and build new clients.

I have an engineering degree that I can't use because of the economy in our state. While laid off I decided to get my nail license.....only no jobs in this area except big salons that don't pay anything. All oriental places....do nails no hire.

I will not give up my passion for nails, just maybe do around about way of getting to where I want to be.

Don't give up, keep you in my prayers.

Carrie

Thank you Carrie and Karen for your sweet comments and thoughts.

I did work from home originally.

I really can't put my finger on what it is, maybe I am a fair weather nail-tech!!?

I love doing nails, but sometimes I feel I am no good at it, but I really do try, I find people want so much from you.

Working from home was very demanding and the price I paid for Insurance I did not really cover this.

If money was not an issue at the moment, nails would be my passion, does that make me shallow? or just thinking with my head? I cant fulfill my dreams if I am a "pretend tech", it just wont happen. You have to be doing nails full time, day in day out. The Salons don't pay enough for this! and after working for myself I don't think I could hand over the profit to someone else.

What about going mobile? And if you really don't think you will be able to make enough, get a job during the day.

Just a thought :)

I saw this great quote on TV the other day that has made me think really hard(!?!) this week
a goal without a plan is just a dream:)

we need to find out what our goal is then plan how to get there and just go for it accepting the rough with the smooth.

i work in an office part time and do nails at home and mobile part time this works at the moment and I'm building a lot of clients through work. But i have an ultimate goal and this is just part of the journey.
(not usually this philosophical about things-must be the sun!:| )

Girl I think we' ve all been there at one time or another.
Be encouraged, many times i've felt discouraged and been told to get a proper job.
(Millionaires don't become millionaires working for someone else they have to go out and make it happen they have to get up every time they fall whether someone is there to pick them up or not.)
This is my mantra so to speak and it keeps me going in hard times.

My current situation is this i went on a nail course and then i bought a nail trainer (to practice on) i converted to creative and had a 1-2-1 but i think i've forgotton most of it except how to creat a stiletto shaped nail and a couple of other pointers.

Constant training is expensive, necessary 100%, but expensive.
I need some new training desperatly but i just don't have the funds at the moment. I booth rented from jan to may of this year, it was terrible, the owner of the salon was really horrible and to top it all off he had a beautician who also did manicures and pedicures and he would book his staff and I would get leftovers or people who specifically asked for me. I initially signed a years contract but by mutual agreement we ended it early. This was a blessing because i found myself pregnant 1 month after i started and my baby was due before the end of the contract.

At the moment my goal is to have my own nail and beauty salon one day.
I've already chosen the location, and also to become an educator for a nail company. So I should have two incomes 1 from educating and 1 from my salon. High hopes I hear you all say, why not aim for the sky.
I have two children 1 aged 9 and 1 aged 3 so the for the next few years I won't be doing nothing much but school runs and nappy changes,
In this time I hope to do some more training and practice specialized techniques and enter a few nail competitions to build skill and experience and keep me up to date in whats going on in the nail arena.
I'd love a huge income right now but I'm not prepared to work full time at the moment so any nails that I do now are good practice and a little extra income. With this is mind its easier for me to stay focused.

I know your situation is different but i hope this helps you in some way
Love Chemine
