Hello SiNfuL GirL
I personally don't see how anyone can call themselves a professional hair extensionist if they cannot cut and finish the job they started .....that in itself is not professional !.....
Well to make a small point even a great stylist may not know up to date cuts and not want to cut extensions for there are many ways to do it. Also I wouldnt go to a small super cuts to have color correction done even though they are qualified they still dont know what they are doing but many men go there to get there hair cut. different people specialize in different things. Another exp. Someone may be GREAT at cutting hair but dont do so well installing extensions get what im saying.

Habia over here who set the professional NVQ standards for our hairdressing and beauty industry ....state that hair extensions are an advanced NVQ unit after level 2
There are some very good private training schools who follow Habias guidelines and will only allow NVQ level 2 or equal to train in Hair extensions

But some will let an unqualified person with no prior hair knowledge at all try and learn hair extensions ..... it's these people will always struggle with the cutting and finishing side of hair extensions....
However I bet they can do a beautiful install and once again Suki tells her clients she wont cut the hair and they need to go to someone else so once again that is the clients choice. If a person did an install and didnt tell the client they couldn't cut then that is a different point. But that is not what we are subjected on in this thread.

Hair extensions goes hand in hand with hairdressing and is done after NVQ level 2 or equal ..... Agreed to a point! NVQ also know how to color correct and there are a lot of stylist out there so afraid to use bleach they fail at color correction but may be able to cut someones hair like nobodys business. =)

A professional hair extensionist would want to cut and finish someone else's hair extensions off for them .....

Therefore ....
The professional knowledge I would give to someone who has done way way less than half a hair course is ..... to go and do a full NVQ2 in college or equal and learn how to cut and finish too ! Agreed for those who can just drop everything in there life to go and do that. For those who cant drop everything and still want to pursue there dream any way they can and continue learning then I think they should CAREFULLY and with telling clients there position and knowledge continue experimenting. Why get so upset its the clients choice and you may be the one who gets future business for fixing the hair.

not just pluck out parts of the hairdressing profession by using short private 3 day courses ..... then come on here asking for professional
help from the ones who have spent many years in training to enable them to a hair extensions course the right way around !..... I was one who taught myself how to do almost everything i know now between the internet, videos, others text books, etc. I taught myself but still went to school to get licensed. So who's to say others cant do the same?

The quick route just doesn't work .... you need to at least have some proper hair experience and know how to finish what you started .

I am sure Habia here in the UK didn't set the NVQ hair and beauty guidelines for nothing ... which BTW took many years of hard ongoing work too ! and I for one dont think they should be flouted !.....
:) minky
Last but not least, every hair dresser is different some love wella, I personally HATE wella think its garbage and that is my choice. Some love redken, matrix, paul mitchell etc. Different stylist are what make the beauty industry so much fun. Dont put someone down for wanting to practice there dream even if they cant do the full NVQ at this very second. I personally dont care much for this site anymore it has put a very sour tast in my mouth which is very sad because we have great things in store to share.
BTC isnt even this rude to members. Again thats not cocky that is me helping you and pointing you along with the bad attitudes in here in the right direction.

Oh THANK YOU FOR DELETING MY THREAD I CREATED! POWER TRIPPED MODERATORS FAIL!

Exactly !..... you have just said it yourself !
and this is the point I was making !

Also.... this site is a very well ran and is a very professional site .... plus I have never ever come across one single power tripped moderator  IMO they are patient and kind and above all very hard working.

As I said we all have our own points of view and you should be able to take other peoples points of view into account too without getting so upset about it  !....

Perhaps if you stuck around a little longer you would have seen that
lots of people on here have some great advice to offer and share plus
we all could have helped you along ! .... and pointed you in the right direction too!...

Ok then glad we got that over with. I treat people with the same respect I see being treated I'm not forum police nore do I like to be policed but I don't like seeing people who are asking questions to be treated like they are dumb or un worthy. Thank you for the understanding and I look forward to future experiance here.

Well its good that you are staying around , but ....now that we have made our points upon hairdressers and extensions .... I think its going a little off track now....

Perhaps you should open up another thread about how you think people are being treated on here ?.... that way we can all can discuss and air the matter in more depth ? .... this may give the non professional hairdresser/ extensionist a good chance to express their own views too
about how they feel !.... I for one will stand back and listen !....

I am genuinely interested to try and understand how and where they feel they fit in to the professional hairdressing industry ? and how they see themselves in it too etc ..... :)
Hmm its getting late over here in the UK
and I am getting tired now and off to bed now so I bid you goodnight ....
nite nite all :)

I don't think it is rude to point out that this is a forum for professional hairdressers. It does not extend to non hairdressers, we do not advise on home colouring or otc products either.
The pro hairdressers on here do not believe that a 2 day ext course qualifies you as a pro hairdresser. We have generally taken a couple of years out of our lives to learn our trade.

Self taught people do not count as pro hairdressers either.
So sorry if we have not been able to give you answers that are to your liking, but nobody is gonna tell you "anyone can do ext and hair, dont bother training, just watch a youtube vid" because we care about standards of hairdressing.

Oh and I am not a "cocky hairdresser who knows nothing" I hold city and guilds mastercraftmen as well as a further 8 city and guilds in both hair and beauty subjects, a few pro hair ext qualifications and some commercial courses too. I have a chain of salons which employs many hairdressers, and I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Sounds great to me. ;) Thanks again for the convo and for the points you made good points, again i hope you understand what is was i was trying to say and the point i was making.

Im so sorry I have pointed your name out exactly on the topic of "COCKY HAIR DRESSERS WHO PROBABLY KNOW NOTHING" oh wait it wasn't meant for you specifically. See I love when people automatically bring themselves into a convo. However now that I have gone threw a few threads since reading this your attitude towards people who are non hair dressers is very poor. Just call it how i see it. I don't think you should write a book on how to do anything color, extensions, cuts, skin, or nails, when anyone has a question. But you do not have to say things with such attitude rather why say anything at all if your just going to be annoyed at newbie questions!
Also if your so concerned about ONLY professionals being on this site then why dont you contact the Admin or the shot caller and request that they set up the site so ONLY professionals can register like BTC? Then you wont have to worry anymore about putting people down because then everyone will be to your HIGH standards.
You obviously didn't read the WHOLE thread and the point I was making specifically there fore I dont see how you can come in here with more attitude screaming about how I called you a cocky no nothing hair dresser. That was meant metaphorically.
Honey I don't care how many salons you own or how many awards you have your no better than the next stylist with your attitude. Choose nicer words maybe people like me wouldn't get on here and B*tch to begin with about attitude. Which is the only point I was making to begin with.
Oh and the next time your child or grandchild has a dream and starts pursuing it remember to tell them not to unless there ONLY going to go to school for it. They don't need to practice on anything ONLY school! Even if they cant afford it they have to wait and put there DREAM on hold! Catch my drift yet or are you butt hurt now for my bluntness?

SiNfuL GirL you say other people are rude .... but now I am seeing bad manners coming directly from you yourself !!!!

Plus you have resorted to downright hurtful assumptions and blatant sarcastic remarks  about people ....
do you actually realize you have also started Ruminating .... about other peoples personal lives ?.... and that .... is coming across as pretty odd behavior .....
so can you please please stop it now !..... and talk more rationally
to people ? or get thee hence please ? ....

Plus I dont think there was anything in persianistas above post to cause you to overreact in such a drastic way !..... and whats with this honey and this butt hurt stuff ?.... what is that ? Ughh :(

Also SiNfuL GirL can you please tell us more a bit more about you yourself
as I cannot see on your profile
whether you are male of female ?
whether you are fully trained in hair extensions or if you are a self taught...hair extesnsionist ?
and before you ask me why !!!!
I just think it would be rather nice to know to who'm we are talking too

but then again if you choose not to enlighten us ?
I then actually think I know who you are !
and who has put you up to coming on here ?

you have been having a pop at the site owners and the mods and the people on here ..... perhaps its plain old jealousy :green:
I dont think you can control yourself much ..... can you ?

Maybe you should take the plank out of your own eye before you notice the splinter in someone elses .....

Dear oh dear we got a right one 'ere eh minks??
I will inform my trainees and my past trainees( one of whom is the manager of one of my salons) that I trample on their dreams!!

I find this forum helpful, the other professionals are kind and friendly. If you set out to antagonise you will not enjoy the forum as much.

I think this site is great. It's not an education site but it's very good of professionals to share opinions, experiences and advice. I work on my own so it's good to be able to bounce ideas if i want to. Not too keen on folk taking for granted that advice or how to lessons will be given. Don't get anything free in this world. If you have a real passion for something you'll go for it and learn it properly. If that's out of the question for now, well that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Get back to it when you can. Hair and beauty is an ongoing, always learning new things industry. A skilled trade. Anyone who is interested enough will need to know the basic stuff first (inside out) then move on to the other more interesting stuff. Need to walk before you can run. Not aiming at anyone just sharing my thoughts

Right.
I am not a hair professional so therefore cannot be accused of being a "cocky hairdresser".
Where to start.

Im not cocky you misinterpret that with BLUNT. There is no reason for me to sit here and sugar coat the way i feel about how some get treated (poorly for asking a question).

Right, so you are a straight-talker.....

The way innocent members are treated on this forum blows me away....
Think if your teachers told you that you were stupid and needed to go to pre school before going to school. You would feel like CRAP! So my WHOLE point this ENTIRE TIME is to be careful the way you talk to people there are humans on the other end of that keyboard.

....But you cannot accept straight-talking from other people?
If you have the balls to dish it out, then learn to take it.

Im so sorry I have pointed your name out exactly on the topic of "COCKY HAIR DRESSERS WHO PROBABLY KNOW NOTHING" oh wait it wasn't meant for you specifically.

Honey I don't care how many salons you own or how many awards you have your no better than the next stylist with your attitude.

You sound jealous to me. Most of us would kill for the achievements that Persianista has accomplished.

Choose nicer words maybe people like me wouldn't get on here and B*tch to begin with about attitude.

Right, so you're the big tough girl who is "Blunt" and tells is like it is, but poor baby can't take it from anyone else?

Oh and the next time your child or grandchild has a dream and starts pursuing it remember to tell them not to unless there ONLY going to go to school for it. They don't need to practice on anything ONLY school! Even if they cant afford it they have to wait and put there DREAM on hold!

Please quit with these stupid American Dream sob stories. Go on effin' American Idol if you want some bleeding hearts to sob for you.

I am a Biologist, it took me 4 long years to achieve my degree.
If some little "graduate" of some 1-day-wonder course started giving me the attitude about my profession that you lot are getting about yours, I'd get my degree, have it blown up 10' by 10', and wallpaper their house with it!

Hope that clears up any confusion.

well gotta say i am shocked at how awful you lot have been to each other!! :(

there is enough anger in the world without you all being hateful towards each other!!

i am nothing to do with hair just beauty and nails but like to keep up to date with things and so far i have NEVER come across a thread like this one!!

hope you are all proud of the way you have been!! (obvioulsy i am expecting lots of negative comments from you all)

keep it in check ladies!!

....But you cannot accept straight-talking from other people?
If you have the balls to dish it out, then learn to take it.

Im not dishing out anything Im making a simple but blunt point that you all seem to be ignoring and twisting around into some rather bs.

You sound jealous to me. Most of us would kill for the achievements that Persianista has accomplished.

Jealous lmfao I have plenty of achievements that I made on my own but im not the kind of person to throw them all out so you can OOOOS and AWWWs because those were my personal achievements I don't need praised for! I'm not on here telling ANYONE I'm better than them I'm telling your to be nice to those who ask a simple question instead of telling them to kick rocks! Apparently to much for anyone to comprehend because your so wrapped up in thinking im holding a gun to your head telling you how worthless you are and you fail as hair dressers. I have not said that ONE time to anyone on here only to be nicer on what you so because i think it is bs that Non professionals with a dream get put down for asking a question.

Right, so you're the big tough girl who is "Blunt" and tells is like it is, but poor baby can't take it from anyone else?

That's why I'm still right here making my points, and this isn't a fight of lets meet by the flag pole at 3 pm sharp to fight. This is about respect for each other you show it you get it. I already came upon an agreement with Mink made our points no harm done. So whats your real problem?

Please quit with these stupid American Dream sob stories. Go on effin' American Idol if you want some bleeding hearts to sob for you.
That was between another person and I on that subject so quite being nosy and bringing yourself into someone elses convo as if it were meant towards you specifically. You want to comment fine but don't act ignorant!

And stop typing in effing pink!!! You're not a 5 year old!
Im sorry you dont like my Pink you should complain to the admins and request that option be taken away. I personally like pink. Why are you hating on me because I'm fun and spunky not boring and lame?:D[/QUOTE]

In that case I apologize it was possibly my fault maybe I did something wrong when I made it. I also apologize for accusing the mods of being power tripped I have had no problems with any mods on here therefore I had no right to say that so please accept my apology. Also Normally when using caps to me I use mostly in one or two words with my sentence not meant for shouting only making a firm point. I Don't shout much ever. :D Last but not least I do have to say that you specifically I have seen make post that were very nice and very helpful to most not that i read everything but i skimmed through a lot of old threads and I think that is very nice of you to be so helpful and nice.

Since this got ignored, I have now closed the thread. If you all wish it to go back to the topic in hand then it can be reopened.

We do not allow bitching and personal insults.

I think a read of the site rules and the sticky threads at the top of each forum is needed here.

We are a friendly, but passionate bunch and if this comes across as rude and insulting then that is unfortunate but please do not confuse passion for ones industry with rudeness!
