Last but not least, every hair dresser is different some love wella, I personally HATE wella think its garbage and that is my choice. Some love redken, matrix, paul mitchell etc. Different stylist are what make the beauty industry so much fun. Dont put someone down for wanting to practice there dream even if they cant do the full NVQ at this very second. I personally dont care much for this site anymore it has put a very sour tast in my mouth which is very sad because we have great things in store to share.Hello SiNfuL GirL
I personally don't see how anyone can call themselves a professional hair extensionist if they cannot cut and finish the job they started .....that in itself is not professional !.....
Well to make a small point even a great stylist may not know up to date cuts and not want to cut extensions for there are many ways to do it. Also I wouldnt go to a small super cuts to have color correction done even though they are qualified they still dont know what they are doing but many men go there to get there hair cut. different people specialize in different things. Another exp. Someone may be GREAT at cutting hair but dont do so well installing extensions get what im saying.
Habia over here who set the professional NVQ standards for our hairdressing and beauty industry ....state that hair extensions are an advanced NVQ unit after level 2
There are some very good private training schools who follow Habias guidelines and will only allow NVQ level 2 or equal to train in Hair extensions
But some will let an unqualified person with no prior hair knowledge at all try and learn hair extensions ..... it's these people will always struggle with the cutting and finishing side of hair extensions....
However I bet they can do a beautiful install and once again Suki tells her clients she wont cut the hair and they need to go to someone else so once again that is the clients choice. If a person did an install and didnt tell the client they couldn't cut then that is a different point. But that is not what we are subjected on in this thread.
Hair extensions goes hand in hand with hairdressing and is done after NVQ level 2 or equal ..... Agreed to a point! NVQ also know how to color correct and there are a lot of stylist out there so afraid to use bleach they fail at color correction but may be able to cut someones hair like nobodys business. =)
A professional hair extensionist would want to cut and finish someone else's hair extensions off for them .....
Therefore ....
The professional knowledge I would give to someone who has done way way less than half a hair course is ..... to go and do a full NVQ2 in college or equal and learn how to cut and finish too ! Agreed for those who can just drop everything in there life to go and do that. For those who cant drop everything and still want to pursue there dream any way they can and continue learning then I think they should CAREFULLY and with telling clients there position and knowledge continue experimenting. Why get so upset its the clients choice and you may be the one who gets future business for fixing the hair.
not just pluck out parts of the hairdressing profession by using short private 3 day courses ..... then come on here asking for professional
help from the ones who have spent many years in training to enable them to a hair extensions course the right way around !..... I was one who taught myself how to do almost everything i know now between the internet, videos, others text books, etc. I taught myself but still went to school to get licensed. So who's to say others cant do the same?
The quick route just doesn't work .... you need to at least have some proper hair experience and know how to finish what you started .
I am sure Habia here in the UK didn't set the NVQ hair and beauty guidelines for nothing ... which BTW took many years of hard ongoing work too ! and I for one dont think they should be flouted !.....
