Where I used to work we used wellastrate which works wonders but it does take its tole on the condition and the colour. But when you apply the neutraliser you can mix it with a colour touch to refresh faded areas of the hair.

I've also used the nano keratin system it's brill, not as time consuming as chemical straightening and it leaves the hair in better condition.

They do a few different types and we used it on a client who was having problems with breakage, poor elasticity and couldn't really manage at all with the condition being so bad. We used the one for normal hair and my god it was instantly stronger and she had no frizz, both bonuses in her mind. She was on the verge of tears when she arrived and was very happy when she left, and to me a product that does all that is amazing.

And these days with all these home dyes and rubbish hairdressers you can't be too careful about what products you use and tbh with chemical straightening you still end up having to straighten it to make it smoother.

hey all...i was just wondering of the people that have said they used wellastrate, if any of you have tried 'Straighten it'? i've only used wellastrate once and it worked great, not amazing on condition but if it prevents the use of straighteners then that doesnt bother me, but i wanted to know whether the new forumla is still as good, and i was unsure when looking at it, if it comes with the neutraliser or not, as it is a lot cheaper now and says in the description 'Both variants work with the same 1L Neutraliser' :/

I would like to try opti smooth but the only matrix supplier i can order from is salonsupplies.co.uk and they don't sell it :(

shame affinage doesn't do one really lol

Help! lol

I had my hair done last night with the wella one and it's amazing, I have long, thick, bushy, curly horrible hair and I carnt get over how straight it is, she just blow dyed it because I didn't want it straightening to see how it would be.
I've not touched it this morning it's stick straight!

I did find it stripped some colour out but I'm trying to grow it out anyway, I think it's in very good condition though it's not dry at the ends anymore

hi i have just qualified nvq level 3 i chose chemical straightening as a unit... the lady i did my assessment on has afro carribean hair. last yer she paid £120 for the keratin treatment or as they call the 12 week blow dry. it lasted about a month and then she really struggled straightening her hair.
my hairdressing tutor has two daughters with afro carribean hair and has been chemically straightening there hair all there life so we sent her off to aston and fincher as she knew more about it! she came back with the matrix opti smooth and although its a longer process than others my clients hair looked and felt amazing it was silky smooth straight and extremley shiney she couldnt believe it! this has also lasted her since begining of december and only recently started to get curly again at the root area. she has asked me to do it again for her and after going to aston and fincher yesterday it cost me £** to buy the product!

much much better than any keratin treatment!!:)

I'm not a hair geek but the title of this thread on the home page caught my eye and I wanted to give my opinion from a client's perspective.

I have lots of very thick hair which as soon as it is in contact with any moisture it will just frizz - this can even be from boiling a pan of water on the stove. Going out in the rain and even being on holiday in a warm country will give me immediately very bouffant hair.
I spoke to my stylist who offered me wellstraight. The instant results were good, but not as great as I was hoping for. I have a tidy hair obsession, and the frizziness and thickness of my hair bothers me, I had to have it thinned with thinning scissors which felt like cheating. 5 years ago I found another salon offering matrix opti-smooth and totally adored the results. My hair took less time to dry, looked so shiny and thin (normal volume to most people!) and going out in the rain was not a problem. I know it is supposed to last for the lifetime of the hair but it doesn’t, and the salon I went to stopped offering it and I couldn’t find anywhere local that was doing it. I went back to my prev stylist and had a kerastraight Brazilian blowdry. Despite using the recommended aftercare products, I probably got about 3 weeks out of it and even those 3 weeks were a good as the opti-smooth results. The kerastraight salon don't want to offer permanent straightening so my www trawl to find an opti-smooth salon again. My OH barber mentioned opti-smooth and that he had 2 bottles I could have (in exchange for a VERY nice chateaunef-du-pape) and one of the stylists in my salon has done it again for me. Once again, I love it, my hair has never felt as smooth, silky and thin. I am using the prescribed aftercare, and only need to use my straighteners for final smoothing/glossing.

Our salon owner is very against spending money on anything new but so many clients have commented on my glossy hair that I think it would really take off if we were to offer it.

Just sayin’

❤ing this thread..
I've just recently had a friend ask me about doing a chemical straighten.
Seems like the matrix is the best option....haven't used it before, so I'm intrigued as to how it works x

I love wella strate used it many times, amazing results , but not to be used on high lift tint, or bleach, results on clients last 12 months, and more for long past shoulders. Condition stays lovely. I haven't tried the new range yet!

Done my first one last night took around 3 hours from start to finish, came out amazing. Her hair normally really frizzy when BD but was lovely and smooth, will post pic x
