How would you or the 'people across the street using the product' of heard of these companies without a distributor first investing in them?!?! Who pays for the advertising, PR, education, etc... ? Who invests to build the brand in your area? The distributor does, not the manufacturer.

You seem to have a warped perception of reality regarding distribution. As if distributors drive around in Rolls Royces and wipe their butts with $100 bills. Distributors are businesses and are designed to profit, however their profitability (when it exists) is very very small compared to what you think.

The people you are buying from are not spending money on adverts, trade shows, education events, distribution, currency rate preservation, jobs, etc... They are just the ones cashing in on someone elses investment and hard work. And you're supporting that :)

Principals? ;)

Damn....so I have wasted my time today helping a new salon owner with their order of polishes, making sure they got the right colours and looks for their salon image and clients. Helping to make sure that they get the most product for the minimum outlay.
According to this thread no one wants or needs this kind of service from their Distributor ......................shame cos its the bit of my job I enjoy the most!

There is no marketing for China glaze that I've seen

Do you not get Scratch Magazine then? Because I am preety positive that China Glaze not only advertises in Scratch but there was also an article in the July edition about Michelle Mismas (alllacqueredup.com) photoed with the PR and marketing ladies from China Glaze.

Do you also not go to the shows because I know that China Glaze had a massive stall in the Birmingham Show.

I have just got home and checked my scrtach magazines, China glaze have the full back page on the scratch magazines and have done so for July,October and November editions (bugger where are the rest lol), I can not imagine that this was cheap.

If you're into nail polish blogs at all then you'd know that lots of bloggers have recommended it.

And if you were a trained Nail Technician (i.e. a professional) you would understand the importance of having a good distributor behind you.

You are looking at this as a consumer and as such getting the best deal for you in your choice. If you buy nail polish from the US and it's old or thickened then you've lost the cost of 1 bottle and the time it took to polish your own nails. If a Nail Tech is buying 50 colours to use on the paying public s/he needs to know that the polish is exectly what they ordered.

This site is for trained professionals (or people undergoing training) it is not for us to spend 3 pages trying to educate the likes of you. Trained professionals understand how the supply chain works and also the folly of buying from unauthorised sources. Buying from overseas invalidates my Nail Tech insurance, that makes saving 50p on a bottle of polish quite risky don't you think?

As has already be mentioned, Distributors do alot for us, they help us with what colours to choose etc but there is another reason to purchase from your local distributor and not buy abroad, everytime you purchase your stock etc abroad you are pumping money into their economy, money that should be put back into our own. Now, yes i have bought things from abroad such as a jacket or the odd top but when you are running a business and your sourcing products for that business you need a distributor, your distributor becomes a very good friend in the end and know's your business just as well as you do so there for becomes an asset, how exactly are you going to get the exact advise you need from someone the other side of the world who you've never met let alone spoken too? If you want to buy the odd thing abroad for your own personal use then fair play but do not start giving out information to do with an industry that you know nothing about, if we bought our products from abroad then our insurance becomes invalid, we could be sued hundreds of pounds for that one mistake, so please....think before you type??!!

All i know of is Sally's, But to be honest i tried one the other day and i didn't like it at all i found it was too watery.
