Hi guys,

my friend cam in to colege today, for a full head colour. She is a natural base 6 -7. She has always died her hair - black/blonde/brown then red and has now gone back brown. until now she has always used hoem kits - usually a semi/quasi but as im almost complete in my training for this year shes asked me to do her hair. She just want a more natural colour without the red then with some foiled highlights through to lighten it up a little.

So when she came in today id had a look at the colour chart and thought about what we needed to do, we needed to get teh red tones out of the hair - Training with wella. So i had decided to use Koleston 6/0 with mixer tone 0/22 the 0/22 was to neutralise teh red tones in the har and leave her with a more natural 7/0 we had agreed we would then leave it till the hair was needing re-colouring before foiling and flooding between with Coilour touch 7/0

However my tutor decided to go completly against my decision - she made me apply colour touch 7/01 15g mixed with colour touch 6/0 5g with 1.9%.

The 7/01 was apparently going to remove the red tones already in the hair - espite not been the opposite on the colour wheel.

The end result was my frind/client's hair looked exactly as when she came in.......still had the red tones, she was only charged half price for teh full head quasi so paid £6.00 and my tutor proceeded to tell me that what i was saying was fine but she felt her way was better.

was i right or was i wrong in what i wanted to do? im so so confused and i actually thought i was getting my head aroud colouring pretty well!!

I would have done what you said!!

Another tutor that doesn’t know her ass from her elbow! haha Anyways you was spot on with what you said!! If you did that method you would of been fine, your tutor must be on crack to say her way was better when CLEARLY it wasn’t. Do your thing, sounds like another fabulous hairdresser in the making! :D

Thanks for the reply,

BBH Salon, i am so shocked with the information that my tutor gave me, at the time i still questioned it as she couldnt give me what i considered to be a viable reason - her thoughts where quasi was better than using permenant colour - my argument was that there is no 0/22 in quasi hence her switching to use a 7/01 and i still questioned how the /01 would get rid of teh red toes!!

I knew i was right, iv spent hours and hours studying colour as it is something i am so passionate about and felt i had missunderstood it all.

Thanks for your help and getting my confidence back, ill speak with my friend and see if she is willing to but the colours and i will do it at home for her.

Thanks again for the help.

x

You sound like you had really thought it through. Let us know the outcome.
Hopefully this will teach you to trust your knowledge and judgement, as you sound as though you are gonna be a superb colourist.
