Hi everyone
I am bew to cnd shellac and I am feeling a bit disheartened!
It seems to take me so long just to do a normal application of shellac, most salons take 30 mins which includes cuticle work and my takes 1 hour, as I seem to need to spend a long time on the cuticles as there’s always a lot to remove and have to do 3 coats of shellac as the pale colours never look even.
Just wondering how long it takes you guys and if there’s any tips to help me speed up?
Thank you x x

I've been doing Shellac manicures for 5 years now and it takes me an hour and a quarter to do a removal, full pep and new application.
I work at a relaxed pace but I think if salons are pressuring staff to do it 30 mins then shortcuts will be made.
I'd rather charge a bit more than rush my work.
If there is no soaking off to do then I think 45 mins is my best time.

When looking at other salons' price lists (Shellac or not) often I see a price for gel polish but no manicure beyond filing the nails. This could then be done in 30 mins but what about service longevity?

Happy clients return for more...

Hi thanks for your reply.
I totally agree, I like to take my time as well!
So I suppose I should be too hard on myself that it takes me an hour then, I think I will have to just charge accordingly.
Do you buff the nails?
As I seem to be getting people with a lot of ridges and the pale colours just doesn’t seem to look very even sometimes, thanks again for your advice iits really helpful . X

Hi, no buffing needed with CND shellac, it's one of their plus points!
Lots of the pale colours need 3 coats so don't worry if you are doing that, especially if there are ridges to fill as you build the colour coats.

You might like the recent 'Smooth it' product from Lecente - it's brilliant for evening out the ridges and gives really good strength too. Lots of my clients have it now. (I just include it in the price). To use you apply a coat after the base coat and before the colour. Soak off time is 10 -15 mins so not much different to what you probably do for a normal shellac soak off.

Hi that’s great thanks canbthe lecante be used on all shellac as I am not using lux or vinylux ?
Just a bit confused as when I called sweet squared they saicifvthe colour looks uneven and is not smooth then I could buff the nails, they never mentioned about another product I did get ridge filler but that can only be used with vinylux apparently. X x

Smooth it! Does it help getting 2 weeks wear of your polish?

Lecente 'Smooth It' can be used under any gel polish. You cure it in your light like a top coat.

I wouldn't buff finger nails as it makes them thinner and therefore weaker. (Toes can be though as much thicker).
Just use more coats of gel polish until they are lovely and even colour.

When I first started, it took me 45-60mins. At my old place we were given 45 mins (without removal). But when I started at my new salon, I had to learn to get it down to 30 mins (without removal), which I thought was impossible at the time but because I had started to do so many over and over (it's our most popular nail service), the time it took me just naturally went down. And I don't rush cuticle work. So the more you do, your time will just come down without you even knowing. Just don't skimp on the quality of your work (as tempting as it is) just to get your time down.

With regards to paler colours, I find the best way to apply them is to float the polish on the nail to get even colours and this will help you get it opaque in two coats. Xx

Where I used to work I could do an application in 30 mins and removal and application of shellac in 45 mins, it takes me an hour to gelish or gellux. It just takes practice :)
