just had a few texts from a client who's hair i have coloured once and cut twice. to set the scene i hilited her hair with bleach and 20vol as she wanted a nice bright clean blonde as opposed to the slightly yellowy tone she had (last hairdresser used a "high lift tint with 40vol", but i dont have a clue what one) at the time i cut it into a great wee inverted bob, and 3 days later i got a text saying she wasnt getting on with it and could i take another bit off the back. fine - so i did.
so iv just had a message saying "should i get black hair" eh? her hair is about a level 7/8 naturally. then another saying "what about red" then another saying "im just not gettin on with this bleach, i have roots and it looks great the day i wash it but dead greasy and the colour looks bad the next day" her hilites were done about 4 weeks ago.

how do i respond to this?!?! shes already proving a pain!! initially when i quoted her colour price she said "is this salon price i thought you were mobile?!" yup that right, wanting money off the £45 full head hilites and cut.

i dont know what to do!

title says colour help, really should say client help! soz!

I would just say that as it is a lot lighter than usual, and then her natural hair, she will get roots quickly, but point out it has been four weeks. Tell her that with any colour drastically different from her natural she will see this regrowth.

Also point out if she goes red or black it will be near impossible to get it blonde again! This may change her mind!

I agree, also explain to her if she has a black or red base all over her roots will be the same, if not worse.
Maybe put a few lowlights through next time as well as the blonde if she wants the roots to be broken up a bit. But I certainly would charge again as its been 4weeks!
Good luck x

You need to explain to her the pros and cons of what she has suggested for example
Reds-are generally high maintenance colours
Dark-on a base 7/8 her roots would show in 4 weeks or so and prop look 'grey'
Blondes- highlights do grow out you could add in another colour a softer blonde maybe base 8/9 to help blend with her Nat colour but still keeping it light and/or tone the whole lot to a softer blonde.

The problem is clients don't like the fact that their hair grows and that for the colour to look good it requires maintenance and will cost money. Also your prices seem very reasonable!

well i got back to her and basically said all of the above. if she wants me to colour it black i wont be doing it, i will be advising her to find another hairdresser as it will look awful on her, and as much as the client should get what they want there is no way im putting my name to that!
her hilites were so so close to her scalp, im really funny about that and i make sure my foils are good so it looks better for longer, so she musnt have that much regrowth!! she had it broken up with a darker blonde prior to me and hated it, hence the want for bright blonde again!
my prices match the local salons. no way i can go lower!
funnily enough she hasnt text me back (i didnt say i wasnt doing it, i said did she want a colour consultation :) ) so i think she may be off to buy a packet....... we will find out soon enough as a few of her friends are regulars of mine for colour and i do their hair ups almost every weekend!!!

thanks for your help guys!
