Hi all, i had a client last week who has virgin strawberry blond/ginger hair, base of a 8.. who wanted a half head of low lights.
Colour we chose was the Goldwell TOPCHIC MAX RED 6rv, so we went ahead mixed it with a 6%, and left for 30 minutes.. i checked the colour and all seemed well but once dried the colour hadn't developed well at all, it came out much lighter and bright more of a 6kr.
Were going back to it this saturday to try again (this time going to a full head and adding a dark brown to it -6rb) ive been suggested to maybe use a 9% developer instead or even just leaving it on long which is what i thought to do.

Suggestions and thoughts? Much appreciated! :)
xx

dont use 9. the hair didnt need any lift at all i would advise u use either a demi colour or use ur original colour choice with 3% so your only depositing, i have the same problem with people with fair strawberry blode hair x

She says she wants permanent colourant so im going to go ahead with that but using a 3%? :S

3% is right for this, what you experienced before was colour blow, your peroxide was too high so colour went in then fell out when u washed it off x

This is a pic to show how it came out using the 6%
And its a colour blow out?, thanks alot for the advice just did a bit of reading up and will go ahead with the 3%!
xx

I'm scared of 3%! Sounds daft but I was trained to use 6% and I used 3% once on a client and it went really dark and metallic-y looking? She has a lot of grey but I thought as I wasn't lifting it at all it should be fine and I refreshed the ends with 8/0 and it went all greyish metallic. Anyone got any ideas? I'm too scared to try it again!

Don't you use wella kimi? Wella has to be used with 6% for darkening, staying same and 1 level lift including grey coverage, their tints dontvreactvwell with 3%

Ahhhhhh ok thanks yes I'm Wella. Thought I was missing a trick! Ty blue rinse you are great x

Don't worry I couldn't get my head round this either!! This is also why pastel was created, because it gives a metallic finish to the colour, perfect for toning :) x

just another quick q! im also using a mahogany brown low light on her hair this afternoon, would you suggest using a 3% for this too or would a 6% be fine?
Thanks!xx

If your depositing use 3% unless using wella x

ok, so my thoughts on this....................I don't think your result looks bad at all, yes its more coppery, but personally I would have expected this result anyway.
The 3 % is the best to use as you are depositing only, however a very good tip I was given recently is the colour you apply is only 50 % of the what you will achieve, the other 50 % is your clients natural base and undertones. Does that make sense?!
So basically you are going to get a big dose of copper added into your mix from the clients natural base, plus sitting next to her natural all over colour, the reflects will show as copper.
I would use 6vr or even a 6v ( if there is one? ) with 3 % to keep the colour a bit cooler and you are more likey to end up with a colour looking closer to a 6rv. I hope that makes sense :)

Hi guys! just finished my clients hair and used the 6rv with the 3% and it came out great! much darker and although not 100% the same as the swatch it was very close and i had a happy customer!
Thanks for the advice peeps :)xx
