hey,
I am just wondering if colour technicians exist any more? although i know with toni and guy you can work as a colour technician i cant find anywhere else that employs hairdressers to just do colour? ok so i have an nvq level 2 in ladies hairdressing and 8 years experience these 8 years have been spent doing colour, i do not cut mens hair and i dont have a level 3 and i dont have enough cutting experience, so am i banging my head against a wall in this industry? what could i do to make my c.v more attractive? i have done competitions, photographic work and am dam good at what i do but this isnt enough. what can i do to stand out? sorry about the bible is just a very frustrating situation!

Personal yes I think you are, you need to cut and colour, do gents too :) if you do a colour a certain way surely you know how you'd like to see it cut to enhance that colour? You will never be able to explain your view of that to anyone!! No matter how great you or they are.

sadest thing is i agree with you, thing is colour is my passion i love that finished result that little buzz you get when you see a client smiling but i just dont get that when i cut mens hair its more like a uncontrollable shaking and fearthat im gonna ruin his hair and personally i dont feel that barbering is something you can be taught to love its like marmite? do you think its worth looking at a barbering course or just give up?

A friend of mine is a colour technician, at quite a large salon - about 10 stylists plus apprentices and a receptionist, she has level 2 and 3, and has done management training . I suppose anything that makes you more attractive to an employer would help. Could you approach any larger salons near you?

Hi, i was a colour tech until my hand dermatitis ment i had to leave :(
But lots of larger salons have them, francescos being one x

Could you not do a cutting refresher course? I love doing colour but I know I want to do advanced courses on it, but at te same time I wouldn't neglect my cutting and other aspects like perms even, as its a lot easyer to find a job if you have the all rounder, but again it's even better if you have a speciality.

Do a refresher and get cutting back in hun xoxo

Where I live plenty of salons have colour specialists. I am a creative technician and have applied and been offered various jobs. My passion is for colour and not cutting/styling if I had to do both then I wouldn't enjoy my job the way I currently do and wouldn't be as good at it. X
