A friend of mine went to one of the discount salons for acrylic before her wedding because despite us doing shellac for three months before, she still wasn't happy her nails were long enough. I offered to get gel to do extensions for her but she said she was going into town anyway with her sister in law and didn't want to put me out.

She's just come back from her honeymoon and asked me to soak off the acrylic and shellac for her. 1 hr later the acrylic was finally lifting off ad I buffed off the last bits but on one nail , it had almost burned a hole through her nail and left exposed nail bed. She asked me to shellac over but I'm concerned this might not have been the right thing to do!

Are these discount salons regulated with their acrylic and do we know if they still use MMA acrylic? I've told her to solar oil and hand cream twice a day at least and said if I do regular manicures for her this will help to get her nails stronger and healthier again! Any other advice that I can pass on would be greatly received!

When I say almost burned I mean there was a hole in her nail that looked like a burn hole.

Unfortunately the nail industry isn't regulated in the UK but whether or not MMA was used is irrelevant now as the nails have been removed anyway.
There's nothing that can be done for the damage now except to let it grow out. Obviously she should be Solar oiling every day anyway and taking care of her nails as she would if they werent damaged.
The only problem I find with damaged nails (ESP very damaged like this one) is that our nail products such as Shellac (or any 'good' nail coating) is designed to adhere to the keratin in the nail plate - hence no need to rough nails up with the E File - but with this damage our products won't adhere as well as they should. You should explain this to the client.
I've learnt my lesson soaking off other peoples work to find trashed natural nails and the clients think Shellac will be like a miracle cure, only for it to start chipping in less than 2 weeks. I either use Toughen Up on nails like this or if the nails are so painful they need some sort of coating, I'll use something light and low maintenance like Shellac or a silk wrap.

A friend of mine went to one of the ***for acrylic

Please don't refer to them as ***, they're known as NSS - it becomes a racial issue otherwise. NSS are run by all races all over the world.

Apologies, was not meant to offend. It's just that where I live, all of the 'discount salons' are of that nature. Many apologies.

I have explained to my friend that it will take a good few weeks and a lot of hard work on her part with the solar oil and hand cream to get her nails back healthy and have also explained tht the shellac will not last as long. Just was looking for some sort of a way to get them healthy as quick as possible. It's a shame that this is not regulated as it really is so damaging.

They ARE supposed to be regulated here in the states, sadly, those things still happen.
