.....if i already know a few systems like silk/fibreglass and acrylic?

i did a short course through my local college a few years ago and although it didnt give me a recognised qualification in employment, i learnt and picked up really easy how to do silk and acrylic fullsets. question is reallly, is insurance enough for me to go mobile? or do i need a qualification like a diploma/nvq?

any help would be greatly appreiated :)

I'm confused. Without a recognised qualification you wouldn't be able to get insurance. No insurance means you can't offer services. This is to protect the general public.

im just trying to get as much info and advice as i can at the moment because i seem to be getting a lot of conflicting info.

so you do need a qualification in order to get insurance? as i have been looking at the online courses with essential nails but didnt want to go ahead and pay £500+ if i only needed to get the insurance? what sort of insurance is needed, is it public liabilty insurance? or something a bit more than that?

sorry im just trying to get my head around things as im getting majorly confused on what route i need to take to become a mobile nail tech x

Hi there - Yes, to get insurance you need to have a recognised qualification. Strongly advise that you don't go ahead without insurance as you could really end up in big trouble.

You will have to get some sort of qualification to get insurance. You can do one day courses and get these qualifications. You should look into what insurance you'd like to take out as I've been told not all one day courses are aceptable to all insurance companies. You should also check that they cover the treatments you plan to train in and offer.

You could look at:
Beauty Guild : Membership - Beauty Guild The Guild for membership & insurance.
Membership and insurance benefits from BABTAC BABTAC for membership & insurance.
Salon Insurance Salon Gold for just insurance.

Hope this helps.

there is a training academy near me called pinks training academy and they offer the babtac qualification when you have completed the course, so will this be enough for me to go into employment along with insurance? it did say on their site that i would be able to gain insurance with a babtac x

sorry i looked at it wrong, its actually through the carlton institute and you finish the course with their diploma that you can obtain public liabilty insurance with x

Sorry to jump in, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about what insurance covered if you had NVQ level 2 & im sure 3 too! Im looking to add Gel nails but im sure I covered this & acrylic etc at college, many many years ago! Do I need to do a new Gel nails qualification? or am I covered under my NVQ? Thanks

If I were you, I would update my skills with a current recognized and reputable gel course. You may have covered gel/l&P many, many years ago, but there are always new products, techniques and trends available.
