Hi everyone,

I am training for my NVQ level 2 nail services and have been practising on my mum. She has quite flat nails and both her thumb nails are quite ridged and uneven as she trapped them in a door when she was a kid.

I trained with EZ flow products and use EZ flow for l + p, but use NSI balance gel UV system.

I didnt really have any problems with doing her a set of l + p, although her thumbs were tricky but I got the ez flow tips on okay, but ive since done her two sets of gel with the nsi gel products and I have had a number of problems :/

1. It took me nearly 3 hours the first time, and today it took me over 4 (arghh)
2. The elation tips kept popping off some of her nails so I had to redo them etc

I actually sculpted her thumbs today as I found the elation tips just wouldnt fit onto the shape of her nails. It went okay although I need ALOT of practise on sculpting!!! They did look better that when I had used the tips the first time round though.

Im just wondering if anyone can give me some pointers as to where I might be going wrong... or if there is any solution to this, could I use the ez flow tips with the nsi gel? I did actually try but when it came to glueing the tip on the nsi polybond didnt want to hold the ez flow tip onto the nail so I went back to the elation tips (should I have used ez bond with the ez flow tips?)

Sorry if this makes no sense, Im just feeling abit deflated after 4 hours of stress lol.

Thanks in advance to any help, I really appreciate it :)

Calm down hun:hug: the adiesive shouldn't make any difference, I get my tips from all over the place and always use the nsi brush on tip adiesive. I like that one because it comes with a brush in the lid like a bottle of nail polish and I don't end up sticking my self to the tip or the client:o
I know nothing about the ezflow system so can't comment, but I do know that the nsi works a lot better if you apply it to both the nail and the tip, wait a couple of seconds and then press the tip home for 10 seconds.
If you did all of that then I'm going to stear you to the Sweet Squared web site, because they did and I should think still do a nail adiesive that is designed to take up the spaces in ridged nails, it's more like a gel then a thin glue, and it gives an even surface for the tip to grip.

One other thing comes to mind, were the tips big enough? different makes of tips can have slight differences in their sizing but when you are working with something the size of a nail a tiny difference can make a hug difference. And it's much better to use a tip that is slightly to big and file the sides in to make it fit then to use one that's to small which will keep trying to spring back in to shape after you flatten it to fit, espessially with ridged nails.
Hope this is all of some help to you:hug:

As Susie says, for someone with bitten nails or ridged nails, you can't beat GelBond adhesive from Sweet Squared! It is made to squish into and onto uneven surfaces and fill in the gaps.

As to the tips pinging off ... This is most likey due to trying to push a tip with a pronounced C-curve onto too flat a surface. If the tip does stick, it will most likely eventually split up the middle later, and if it doesn't stick then it will tend to retract to it's former shape and ping off or not be completely adhered to the surface and break later.

Best to fit the correct shape of tip with a compatible C-curve to the nails you are doing.

Thankyou both so much for your advice! I will defo try the gel bond, sounds like good stuff :)

Ahh, yeah I was only putting the adhesive on the tip, so will try putting it on both nail and tip and see how that goes, thanks!

Shall let you know how I get on, thanks again :)

I struggled on for ages with nsi elation tips and polybond, swapped to cnd sealebond and velocity tips and things are 10times easier :D
